Just for fun

1. Use Google street view and screenshot the entrance of your first regular local pub. (ie that place where you ended up every Friday night back when you were 18-whenever)

2. Crop the image so no immediate giveaway-clues (ie pub name/sign) and then post it here

3. Don’t state the place name or pub name.

4. If you are convinced you recognise another poster’s pub @ location then you must guess in a comment using the @(posters name) reply feature.

5. If someone guesses your pub correctly then both you and the correct-guesser have to post a brief memory or event related to that place.

I’ll start (and I still can’t string a decent sentence together 😄)

@beej Sorry to hear that. Any old pic will do otherwise opt for a second-favourite etc.

@p7eaven no idea on yours but at a wild guess I'd say East Midlands. Maybe Leicester.

@sargey and @Houns

‘Upstairs At The Mitre’ - a fair-sized stage with all sorts of bands playing (of varying talents and budding fame/obscurity)

Stage had a small light-show, along with legendary landlord and musician/live music advocate John Knight’s (RIP) cool old oil-projector throwing imGes of oil bubbles and naked cartoon 60’s space women swirling over the flock wallpaper. Bands such as The Genital Deformities, Pop Will Eat Itself, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Peppermint Airgun and Belch Pop Frenzy would delight our ears with noise.

Many a bottle of ‘Newcie’ or pint of bitter would later send us heaving over Mary Stevens Park or down the subway while trying to navigate to any party going.

Memory: Drunk John (an amiable but seemingly always inebriated individual) was a slightly built young man. One night he’d staggered to the stage and approached the band/mic (it wasn't open mic night) one too many times.

Landlord finally flipped, grabbed the little fellow by the (floral) shirt-tittz and carried him like this at arms length to the top of the stairs before throwing him down to the next level. Not content with that, The Knightenator marched after him down the stairs sharpish, picked the poor kid up again and flung him down the next flight also. And once more to the ground floor. Still not happy, he grabbed him yet again and carried him to the back door before tossing him down the slope halfway across the car park like a small rag doll. A little excessive, I thought. Never saw anyone take the piss again though 😳

Do people who played outside a flat-roofer when they were 10 need their own thread? 🤪

Would love to join in, but regardless of browser, pc, Mac, android or iPhone I’ve never been able to put a photo on this site that isn’t a web link.

Change massively since I first started boozing, but many a happy afternoon/evening in here. Also used to work behind the bar and in the kitchen.

And remember, the clues are there!

Not my first pub, but the first one I ever had a sentimental attachment to.

Was this thread inspired by this, OP?

Doesn't look much like the hotbed of teenage rebellion.

Not sure what it means?

You’ll first need to upload the pic somewhere and then share the link. I use imgbox as its free and simple

pub

changed a bit now. used to be carpark full of motorbikes, ace of spades on the jukebox seemingly on repeat and newky brown served to underagers for £1 a bottle.

weird one really, the big white extension function room was built where old cottages used to be. That was where my dad grew up when he was moved during WW2. I found that out when we held his wake there.

I remember getting served significantly underage here. Taking a tray of pints out to the beer garden and the landlord came in through the back door just as I was going out and said “I’ll take those thank you”. Busted.
