Sad but true I used to be able to download YouTube videos to help with putting together IKEA furniture, but now can only do this if I subscribe. And at £11.99 a month that's way over the top. Is there any other way of downloading or even an alternative site?
There's loads of third party websites that will do it eg https://yt1s.com/en1
Downloaded one (I featured in briefly) last week
IIRC that link above is the one I used, but if you google it there's loads if that doesn't work
I've been close to cracking with the ads .... really wrecks stuff like training vids or follow along how-to's... especially the ones you are already balancing something with your chin and holding a tool in each hand...
I don’t get ads on YouTube and I’m not a premium subscriber. I do use an Adblock extension on Chrome though.
had premium for years. I got logged out the other day and my god its horrible.
Thanks Nickjb et al, you may have helped my malm drawer project for tonight.

Surely that only works on the sidebar, not the "your video will resume in 30s" adverts?
Anyone using YouTube on Android check out YouTube Vanced. You can still log in as you, cast to your TV etc however the whole thing is magically ad free. Really very good and available from a proper website etc and not some dodgy torrent somewhere...
I’ve been close to cracking with the ads …
I don't see any and don't subscribe, one of the many add on scripts to Firefox blocks them all (probably ABP - Ad Block Pro).
not the “your video will resume in 30s” adverts?
No, I get the countdown saying Ads in 3.2.1 then it just skips the ad and the video continues as if nothing had happened. Quite suprised Google haven't stopped you skipping them so easily to be honest.
Never bothered to figure out which plug in does that, I run: ABP, Script Block, Ghostery and Privacy Badger as my main ones....
I understand that they are a private company, and get a fair bit of their revenue from selling ads and subscriptions. But it does feel slightly annoying when 75% of the ads that play before a video or interrupt the video are from YouTube themselves saying something along the lines of "isn't it annoying when adverts interrupt what you are watching.... Subscribe now to see fewer ads"
I have premium now.
Not having ads is bliss and I have YouTube music with it too like.
Anyway, another way is to download a screen recording app and record your video.

Haven't watched an ad on YouTube for years on my devices, makes it so much more usable. Watched a few videos on my parent's computer a few weeks ago about how to do some DIY jobs I was stuck with and the ad/content ratio was so ridiculous it made it virtually impossible to follow what the guy who made the video was trying to say!
I do use an Adblock extension on Chrome though.
I'd no idea Chrome allowed such things, being part of Google which is Ad-ville-central!
I've only ever seen ads on mobile, not on a PC, if that helps any?
I use Adblock Plus and never see any adverts on YouTube or any other site.
I haven't found a way to avoid the ads when watching on my smart TV. I know I can cast it from my phone but just using the TV remote and inbuilt app is a lot nicer (apart from the ads).
In an irritating world domination/anti competitive but very decent value for money sense it's loads better value if you have both YT and YT Music premium. Then it's about £14 for the pair.
Forget downloads the adverts had got so intrusive on some stuff that heaps of content was unwatchable.
As someone who's just spent all today editing a 3-minute video that will end up on YouTube, I'd like to thank all those freeloaders that block the adverts that might eventually pay me and allow me to keep buying shiny bike bits.
Wait till you get premium then work out you still see/hear the occasional advert (though much much shorter ones). Yes it sounds wrong but it is what happens.
Why would you want to download the YouTube videos rather than stream? Unless your on a plane or building a wardrobe at the top of an unpopular mountain, you probably have internet 🙂
I use Adblock Plus and never see any adverts
Probably because you've died of old age by the time the page loads.
I used ABP for years but ditched it ages ago when I realised how much resource it was drinking. You'd be better off with adverts.
uBlock Origin is what I replaced ABP with.
@Cougar I have no loading issues with ADP. I'm using an Alienware laptop.
