Special off just landed in my in box - Boris Lie-PA is a resignation hazy IPA brewed to celebrate the next chapter.

Not going to order any as I imagine it lacks strength, depth and integrity

Generic Brewdog IPA in a hastily designed can with a name picked via a LinkedIn poll (from 2 days ago).

No thanks.

I've never been a fan of Brewdog, but I have to admit that if nothing else, they are marketing geniuses.

Also, since, I dislike them as a company, it does pain me to say that Punk AF is one of the best alcohol free beers I've tried. Annoyingly.

It’s just lame virtue signalling from a company that trades on its values yet continues to be led by a CEO who reportedly bullied employees over an extended period and then opened an “independent” investigation in which the outside investigators were secretly feeding who-said-what straight back to the company.

I felt the same but can recommend:

https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/low-alcohol-drink/infinite-session-pale-ale-330ml-can

as same if not slightly better.

led by a CEO

He's on Diary of a CEO this week - haven't had a chance to listen to it fully but it seems a few of those allegations are being challenged in court...

I like the nanny State more than the Punk for AF beer. Infinite Session from Sainsburys is okay but I find it needs to be very chilled to get there

Brewdog? Who are getting a million quid of taxpayer's cash to plant fenced in forests in the highlands rather than the example of nearby Glen Feshie of shooting enough deer to allow natural regeneration.

Which has the added bonus of ongoing local jobs to manage deer numbers rather than one off fencing and planting.

Less profitable I presume.

what if - mad thought - they simply aren’t interested in being involved with deer murdering? (Or as that article hilariously & euphemistically puts it, “ reducing grazing pressure”) Something which neither you nor the (reasonably balanced, for a countryside type) author of the article seem to have considered for some reason? (He actually concedes that the land has massively improved since BD have taken over and stopped the grouse shooting)

If they don’t want hunting on their land - something which probably wouldn’t go over well with their customer demographic - and Scottish Forestry are handing out grants for fences to keep deer away from baby trees, pretty logical that they would apply for one, no? 🤔

I heard they also stole marketing ideas from people they interviewed for marketing jobs.

Their CEO seems like a total asshole.

Always the same kind of people who are greedy to show how virtuous they are on other matters.

Yes. Inexcusable. However they’re a huge company and I like to think that most of the employees - especially those involved with green projects, of which they have a few - are good eggs. The huge (ex)employee backlash against JW seems to suggest they are!

Deer murdering? Seriously?

I first went to Glen Feshie in the early 70s. The floor of the glen was barren apart from the few old granny pines. Hundreds of deer around.

Massive over grazing.

Now you wouldn't recognise it. Pine, birch, juniper regenerating everywhere because deer numbers have been cut.

No fences required. If they don't want hunting the answer is to reduce deer numbers. The alternative is that the land is over stocked and deer die of hunger in the winter.

This isn't hunting for pleasure we're talking about here. It's control of an animal population that has been allowed to get out of control to the detriment of the whole ecosystem, deer included.

Very much this. Without natural predation the ecosystem is out of balance.

true. Humans have ****ed up the eco system. Why do some people think the only solution is shooting even MORE animals? 😂 it isn’t, obviously, and not every person or organisation wants that anyway. Hardly rocket science!

The BrewDog pub in Reading is not a nice place. Staff rude, possibly due to stress.

What's your solution then? There are too many deer and deer eat young trees. Nobody (well, almost nobody) wants deer culls but they're an essential part of land management in some places.

Shooting more? We haven't been shooting enough. The deer population has doubled in the last 30 years.Think of all that lovely venison.

I’ve just listened to the podcast that @blast posted up about Brew Dog. The main man is clearly a Grade A slimeball of the highest order and it’s culture is far worse than those companies it loves to criticise

It seems to have honed the art of marketing to gullible idiots. Truly the Boris Johnson of corporates. And it is a corporate, if you’ve got enough brain cells to see through the ‘punk ethos’ bollocks

The same money-grubbing philosophy as a corporate bank, just with full sleeve tattoos and a hipster beard

Sticking it to the man, yeah?

With private jets and a boss with more than a touch of the Harvey Weinstein about him

Shame, the one in St. Andrews is great, nice staff, kid friendly, good food, I even like the beers 😉

The Barnard Castle Eye Test was really nice, shame it was a limited run. That said, I guess it was something that was rebranded. Not found anything in their inventory that matches though.

I prefer Nanny State too, although it sometimes has a bitter aftertaste. I found Infinite Session IPA undrinkable. It has a strong vegetable-like aroma as it warms up. I've noticed hints of the same in other IPAs, but it's been far better balanced in those. It's a shame because the first sips of Infinite Session IPA are actually nice, I just couldn't ever finish it.

I'm yet to find an AF IPA that I like, alcohol seems essential to the overall flavour. I've found lager and stout make much better AF beers. AF canned Guinness tastes just like alcoholic canned Guinness.... granted, for stouts Guinness sets a low bar anyway 🙂

This. I've given up on alcohol free IPA. Makes sense really as most of my favourite IPAs tend to be tramp juice strength at 8-10% 🙄

Need to try 0% Guinness, previous experiments with AF stouts (Big Drop) were tasty but sweet, sort of put me off a bit.

Just pretend it's a black and tan and you'll be fine 😉

Didn't find Big Drop (pretty sure that's what it was) too bad. As said Nanny State tastes good but I'm not really for throwing more money at that shower of knobs. Wheat beer works too, think Tesco do an AF Franziskaner.

Beavertown Lazer Crush is one of the better AF Pales.
