This time of year where I live the cicadas are very active. Riding is borderline hazardous because in the forests they're so loud it can hurt. Rarely they fly out and hit you as you ride, which can be a bit shocking.
Early yesterday morning it was hot and I was riding at one of my favourite local mtb trails. The cicadas were bonkers. One flew right past my face and I got a stream of liquid on my face. Shortly after it happened again. Three more times i was hit in the next couple of km, twice on the arm, once on the abdomen. Each time I got liquid on me.
Not a very pleasant smell (or taste!).
I looked it up later, and it turns out that they do indeed pee.
What did you learn today/yesterday?
They emerge to mate, don't they? What they sprayed you with may not have been pee. You normally have to go to expensive specialty clubs to get the service that you got for free. Relax and enjoy.
Haha ... yes, they do emerge to mate and that's what the cacophony is all about. But apparently the pee is excreted xylem which they extract from the tree.
I learned that I think I'd rather the freezing cold and relentless mudfest of UK riding than getting drenched in Cicada jizz 😂 🤮
Hey don't knock it til you've tried it!
... i do miss a bit of UK mud.

Ah, the irony. And I swear I searched 'Today'
TBF I only found it because I started it, so it's in my "Topics created" history.
Surely it'd be water they drink from the xylem or sugars they drink from the phloem???
Early yesterday morning it was hot
Clearly not in the UK then.
Remember hiking Mt. Warning on Christmas Eve a few years ago. The sound of the Cicadas was absolutely deafening! Didn't have any intimate moments with them though.
The other day I learnt that buccal midazolam is not licenced for use in adults.
But, many adults have it prescribed off licence as an emergency medication for seizures.
The rationale is that they know it works and it would be morally wrong to withhold / administer a placebo in a trial to evidence it works with adults to therefore licence it's use.

whatever you need to do to justify it to yourself…
Hey, I’ll be back for more on Friday
therefore licence it’s use
Today my colleague learned the difference between it's and its.
Hey, I’ll be back for more on Friday
a gentle ride between the linden trees?

I seem to remember (from The Infinite Monkey Cage) that fruit flies discharge bodily fluids when they die, and that male fruit flies contain a disproportionately large amount of fruit fly semen. So, if you find a fruit fly doing backstroke in your beer or wine tonight try to get it out before it fills your glass with fruit fly jizz. 😀

Not before seeing whether it enhances the taste first though.

Citrussy hops or just 'natural' citrus flavour? 😀
Fruit fly jizz walk jam nitty-gritty, you're listening to the boy from the big bad city.
If I hear the Cicadas noise I know I am home.
