Called up for Jury duty. 2nd time for me so I know there’s going to be plenty of waiting round followed by more waiting round. Need the help of the Singletrack community to assist in the fight against death by boredom.
So let’s have your recommendations for books (preferably Autobiography’s), Podcasts and music playlists to kill the time.
Thanks in advance.

Guess the idiot who will not go with a majority verdict so they can stay off work longer ?

Pop out for a sandwich a lunchtime and stand in the queue next to the defendant (and let them explain to you politely why you shouldn’t get them locked up)

Research the defendant on the internet to see what a nice chap they have been in the past

Those are all things that happened whilst doing kangaroo crown court

Guess the idiots that will go with guilty or not guilty, whichever gets them home quicker?

If only he had given is reasoning that would be fine and we could have all had a reasoned debate, but he just sat there for 1.5 days until early Friday afternoon and then just said ok !

Very much this, but I've also just finished Court Number One: A History Of The Old Bailey, by Thomas Grant and that's been really, really interesting. 🙂

Autobiographies:
Fist Light by Geoffrey Wellum
Going Solo by Roald Dahl
War in a Stingbag by Charles Lamb

Ok, all three have an aviation and war theme but each are far from the gung ho stereotype.
a book I read in your situation ( first and only jury duty-so far)
Name of the rose by Umberto Eco dense enough to really need to concentrate but also something that you can put down and come back to.

Very much this,

I'm currently reading his Fake Law and his seething simmering rage is becoming contagious.

I'm confused - you think jurors should just conform to the loudest noise in the room so they can go home quicker? But I'm also wondering why if it was one person who disagreed it was holding the rest of you to ransom. Did you not offer the judge 11/12 in agreement?

Pop out for a sandwich a lunchtime and stand in the queue next to the defendant (and let them explain to you politely why you shouldn’t get them locked up)

I assume that this was immediately reported to the judge/jury minder, the jury discharged, you all got to go home early and the defendant was considered for contempt? Or did the juror(s) keep quiet for an easy life?

Research the defendant on the internet to see what a nice chap they have been in the past

Did the other jurors report this to the judge/jury minder?
