You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Sorry, I need a list of defined deliverables so I make sure I'm posting the right stuff. Personally, I find some really heavy music "beautiful", but that may not fulfill the OP's criteria.
Define “beautiful”.
Red the OP's post - songs to listen to before going to sleep. I only just read it, but think mine fit. 🙂
I loved the FC Kahuna album, Binners.. nothing quite matches Hayling on there, 'tis true 😀

I've been listening to the Devin Townsend before I go to sleep, but I suspect that might not be appropriate. Anyhoo, here you go:
Heard this for the first time in ages today: as covers go, not a bad one.
Beck Paper Tiger and Volcano, plenty of BOC and most of Selected Ambient Works.
This gets me right in the feels around the 3.40 minute mark.
but I suspect that might not be appropriate
Puts me to sleep anyway 😉
The soothing sound of Cate Le Bon singing 'O Am Gariad':
Playing music from phone on a drive today and this gem came up;
Snow Patrol; Turn the fire to the third bar ft. Martha Wainwright.
I'd post the video, but I can't for the life of me get it work on this shit forum platform.
Of Monster and Men; Little Talks is another beautiful song.
And, somewhat surprisingly, Slipknot; Snuff.

OK, so it's the preview that's ****ed. Who knew?
On the basis of something beautiful that helps me get to sleep (re-reading the OP 🤢) well for the last 10 years I’ve been listening to Arvo Parts Kanon Pokajanen last thing at night in my bed (although recently I’ve taken to playing it RFL on my Walkman).
apparently it’s the Canon of Redemption sung in Church Slavonic. To me, it’s just sheer unadulterated minimalist beauty. This gives a flavour:
it has a sister piece (Symphony No 4 Los Angeles - based on Canon of the Guardian Angel). The cd I have also has ‘fragments’ after it so it also gets frequent listening, but in a more normalised setting.
Doesn't have to be bedtime music, just something that's either hauntingly beautiful or that really connects with you when you're in a 'reflective' mood.
Preferably no Slipknot😉.
Well worth a listen
Arvo Part meets both those requirements...
Snow Patrol earns the first card of the thread. And its a straight red! 😉

I’ve just realised that this thread has unbelievably managed to get this far without anything from the high queen of gorgeousness. Quite an achievement to make something utterly beautiful about drowning at sea
Kate Bush is mentioned in the OP...
As you can't even read the first post properly I am calling on the video ref to disallow your red card. 😀
Curses!!! Not bothering to read the OP properly. 😃
Carol King: will you still love me tomorrow.
Brilliant choice from Thepurist there
I've got an ipod I listen to at night.. here's a few that are on it
Also Moby's recent "Long Ambients" album is a gorgeous thing. I don't think I've heard much of it cos I just sleep with it playing 🙂
Daughter - Youth
Gang of Youths cover The Middle East 'Blood'
Almost anything by Johnny Dowd but probably ‘worried mind’ if I had to choose. If I knew how to link or imbed it here I would.
I'm a bit of a gene Clark obsessive but I'd say that 'Polly' by Dillard & Clark is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It's the tempo, everything about it. Listen to it. That'd be my glass of port and sit by the fireplace toon
Also, ''' still in love with you' by thin Lizzy off the love and dangerous album. Awesome and the best guitar solo of all time courtesy of Brian Robertson
I can feel a binners red card coming on... (unless bikebouy is a 60 yo woman, then he might forgive)
Trentemoller - Miss You
Thanks The Purist. I've not listened to Space Is Only Noise You Can See in ages. That's going on in a bit.
Someone’s got to balance up all your “oh, I’m cool n trendy/I’ll post some random jingly jangly shit that no-ones heard of” up.
Eh?
Same every music thread.
🤣💩
Let me be the voice of balance if you like ..
Just cos you're not interested in finding music, doesn't mean nobody else is. Posting utter shit as a response to sharing interesting stuff people might not have heard... that's reasonable?
"Jingly jangly". Pathetic
Apparat and FC Kahuna are good choices too (someone recognises DezB's "jingly jangly" stuff).
Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (beatless mix)
Tripswitch - Strangle Parallels. Track two on Nick Warren's epic Global Underground Paris mix.
Define
utter shit
Its all music isn’t it?
Just because I don’t like your jingly jangly stuff doesn’t mean I don’t like music. Certainly doesn’t mean I don’t look for stuff either, you don’t really know what I listen too or where I go to find it.
Both those 2 songs are awesome, and fit well into this thread.
Ohh Mindy Smith!
I used to like her..
Childish Gambino - feels like summer
John Mayer - slow dancing in a burning room
Choppersquad - you mean Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard's 'Hallejulah' ......
How about Sandy Denny/Fairport Convention "Who knows where the time goes"
"Dimming of the day" was a good call, a couple of other beautiful Richard Thompson songs - 'Beeswing' and 'How will I ever be simple again"
Too many Leonard Cohen songs to list, but 'If it be your will', Famous blue raincoat' and 'Joan of Arc' will do for starters.
Faithless - Dont leave
Sorry failedengineer, I didn't mean it was Jeff Buckley's song, just his version of it.
As the OP can I say that everyone is doing a Stella job with this thread and multiple suggestions are more than welcome.
Also, it's open to any song that anyone finds beautiful whether it be totally off the chart or incredibly mainstream, which means Barry Manilow can sit right up there next to Broads.
I'll even take back my Slipknot comment and welcome them (tentatively) into the fold if someone deems them worthy.
I love this, a quieter side of Kim Deal.
Kim and Kelley Deal - Wicked Little Town
Song starts at 1:48
Peter Gabriel New Blood is the cd on my olde Marantz 50 se, old tracks played about with in 2011
As recommended by Pep at the weekend, you'll need the translated lyrics for it to make sense (unless you comprehend Catalan)
Melancholy but beautiful.
Death Cab for Cutie - Brothers on a Hotel Bed
Holly Williams - Waiting on June
William Bell - I forgot to be your lover
Alicia Keys - If I aint got you
Rufus Wainwright - One man Guy
Ani Di Franco - You had Time
O.V. Wright - Lets straighten it out
Graham Parker - Between you and Me
Duncan Browne - Journey
The Watersons - The Holmfirth Anthem
Bill Fay - I hear you calling
Big Star - Take Care
Run Boy Run - Lady Margaret
Nick Drake - Way to Blue
Last time I cried at a gig, was this song. Various reasons.. 😆
One more
From my vinyl collection gathering dust in the loft ..loved this album and track ..( must check to see if it has made it onto Spotify yet ..)
How about something from Vashti Bunyan?
Most likely the Lookaftering album, maybe Here Before
Some may describe it as sickly or childlike but I find her voice so soothing.
Has this been done?
My current favourite is Heartless B*stards - Only for You.
video is a bit rubbish but a great song
I'm not sure if it's my most beautiful song but it certainly helped during some tuff times once upon a time,
'Misty blue' by Dorothy Moore
I think this ticks the boxes. Ticks mine anyway
A classic
...and another.
Last one. Best version. Wince-makingly beautiful
