You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just about any track from either of their two albums would do ..
No 'favourite', but have a good few favourites. Here's one:
'Twice' by Little Dragon
I’m a big Agnes Obel fan.
at the moment this is hitting the spot: Susanne Sundfor...
Nice to see Cowboy Junkies up there...they wrote a song about this guy!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zaP8NGML_QE
And...well they come as a pair in my mind.

Mason Jennings - Use Your Voice, the whole album. Ray LaMontagne - Can I Stay
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks and Moondance albums.
Bon Iver - For Emma, forever ago, whole album again.
I fell asleep last night listening to Tom Morello’s album. Not chilled as such, but not what you’d expect from him in a good way.
edit - sorry thought thread was stuff to fall asleep to for some reason.
The National - Slow Show
Gaz Coombes - The Girl who Fell to Earth
Embrace - Fireworks
Not generally a McCartney fan, but the Beatles: Blackbird.
Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac: Man of the World.
John Martin: Solid Air
I usually listen to rock/metal music but it's nice to listen to something totally different and a bit more chilled out now and again, I couldn't chose just one though!
Kiri Te Kanawa and "Blue Skies"
Cinematic Orchestra. As heard in about 2000 TV programmes. Seriously, search it on Wiki
This is is 3 min 51s of sonic, harmonic beauty.
Bluebeard by Cocteau Twins.
Cocteau Twins are fantastic for late night ambience, won't post links but Lorelei and Pearly Dewdrops Drops are favourites as well. But in the spirit of bands that you wouldn't really associate with this genre
(and I'm seeing them in 2 weeks time)
Hoppipola (sp?) has a great video and a wonderful track
Yes , a fabulous film.
I would enter a lot of Sigur Ros' stuff here.
Some absolute belters on here folks. Good work!
i love a bit of Thea Gilmore. Off to see her again next month. Her voice is amazing. This is about as good as cover versions get. Just beautiful...
this takes something horrific - the holicaust - and creates one of the most achingly beautiful things I have ever heard
Nice to see the Cowboy Junkies mentioned up there - Margo has a great voice.
For me though, I have to go classical - Anne Truelove's Aria (No Word from Tom) from Stravinsky's "Rake's Progress". Ideally the recording by Dawn Upshaw (who incidentally rose to fame through the Gorecki piece above).
A quick Google and here it is.
Ah, yes, Thea Gilmore! A lovely person and a superb singer and songwriter. Also a superb interpreter of other writers works, like those of Sandy Denny. Thea’s cover of Sandy’s ‘Glistening Bay’ is just breathtaking.
You all have quite good taste in music really. Some great selections.
This one always gives me goosebumps...
And have we not had any Aphex?
Couldn’t agree more Countzero. Here’s the cover of Sandy Denny’s ‘Georgia’. She wrote it about her daughter but died before she recorded it. Beautiful...
+1 Song To The Siren, This Mortal Coil
Yep, and what's more there are 3 good versions of this + Bryan Ferry, Sinead O'Connor.
Sweet Child O' Mine - Taken by Trees
Avalon - Bryan Ferry
A couple of great tracks by Ride Howard Hughes, OX4
This song can really break my heart, if I’m in the right frame of mind.
I am loving this, so thanks all for contributing.
This lot is going to make the most chilled out perfect playlist ever.
Being the OP can I add another to the list?
IAMX 'This Will Make You Love Again'
A couple more, gotta have some Global Communications...
All the feels, as the kids say...
Erm..,
Glen Campbell Whitcha Linesman
Pulp Babies
Lana Del Rey : Born to Die
All spring to mind.
CountZero - we saw Fran Smith support Thea a few years ago. More utter vocal gorgeousness...
I know I said just one more but I couldn't leave Fink 'This Is The Thing' off the list.
Sorry that really is it for me now.
Can’t believe no-one has suggested this yet. Seemed popular on STW a while back.
Mrs Binners walked down the aisle to become Mrs Binners to that one niksnr. Good call!
I’m about to disappear into the kitchen to cook tea for the good lady. These are all going on a playlist while I potter about. You lot have exquisite taste. Best thread in ages!
Cant beat some Neil Young although Heart of Gold for me, what about some Bowie the fag draw creaky chair Bewlay Brothers or even some Cat Stevens Father and Son
Obviously failed the video posting test. It's supposed to be "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy
And I don't believe we've had any Penguin Cafe Orchestra?
An unforgivable oversight if so...
And seeing as this is a mountain biking forum, apparently, something appropriate. A fantastic tune to soundtrack a fabulous film sequence that sums up riding bikes, dossing around with your mates on a sunny afternoon 😀
Binners, Congratulations! You’ve got an amazing musical ear (I obviously haven’t met the wife!). 😂
Something lovely and wistful.
A Few by Tom Baxter esp Day in Verona
Marissa Nadler - Dead city Emily
69 - Desire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgfCBo8mVTk
Nadine Shah - Winter Reigns
Way out weather - steve gunn. done
Paper tiger by Beck, to he fair most of the tracks from that album would fit the bill.
Or a listen to V by Wooden Shjips, pick your favourite.
Lots of stuff I’d never heard before. Thanks for all the posts, I’ve learnt a lot.
Where's DezB?! Must be uncomfortable with beautiful 🙂
My contribution is Zero 7 - before Sia was famous.
Couldn't find the one I wanted on yt, but this'll do:
Aaaand a crowd pleaser
Martha Wainwright 'Proserpina'..... just amazing.
Sorry.......I can't help myself.
Waiting for an influx of drunken emotional posts after people stumble in from the pub😉.
Heard Sting's Fields Of Gold on the radio today for first time in ages, very mellow tune.
Phil Collins' Father To Son is another tune that springs to mind.
The utterly beautiful Amy. What a voice. An absolute tragedy
Right! I’m starting the drunken over-emotional stuff then.
If you can watch this girl, having done this gig, after everything, with a dry eye, then you’ve a heart of stone. Watched this with my wife and my two daughters and we all cried like babies.
Manchester. One love. Beautiful indeed...
Fields of Gold was played many times as our alcoholic friend waited for her liver to fail nearly 20 years ago. Memorable for all the wrong reasons. (Just in from a terrible pub-crawl event in Vienna, they don’t have a problem drinking culture as you can’t get served).
The entire, yet achingly brief, output of Nick Drake is full of beauty
and gave rise to more of it
Surely it's got to be Lady in Red...?
But on a serious note, I don't know if it's going to sleep music but "Things the grandchildren should know" by Eels always gives me goose bumps.
Ruby Tuesday by Melanie
Trollbundin by Eivor
Go on then.
0 dislikes until now 😀

Love this one.
Peppino Gagliardi - “Che vuole questa musica stasera”
Francis Cabrel - Je t'aimais, je t'aime et je t'aimerais
Another from me, big fan of this chap.
Ray LaMontange - Trouble (live on Joules Hootananny)
Could list a number of Simon & Garfunkel, together or solo material.
Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters has particular personal meaning to me.
Johnny Cash version of Hurt
This Mortal Coil obvs, Bjork - Hyperballad, might have alread been done?
vocal on this always tugs at me
a few apparat songs... this is gorgeous
Not necessarily my favourite but one of my favourites this morning. A beautiful album from Daughter
Heard this for the first time recently, written with the war in Kosovo in mind but for me as we approach the 100th anniversary of the armistice this seems a beautiful evocation of the terrible loss that war brings
Bonnie Raitt and Richard Thomson
Good call Dezzy Baby. Great track, but also a contender for the other recent thread ‘albums that you bought on the strength of one track that turned out to be crap’
Define "beautiful".
