You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have been awaiting delivery of a few items off Sport Pursuit and it appears they use Yodel as their couriers.
The first day it was supposed to be delivered we found a 'sorry you were out' card in the post box. no worries, we'll get it rescheduled for next week (weds just gone), woke up in the morning 7:30, went downstairs to find another 'sorry you were out' card. This got me thinking as I hadn't heard a knock and the dog didn't bark. Rescheduled for this morning and the same thing happened again - no knock, no barking dog but a card informing me I was out (I was in bed).
Either they don't knock and rely on my telepathic powers to know they're at the door or they just don't knock and like feeding my letterbox.
Before you suggest I didn't hear the knock, this cannot be the case as we have the biggest knocker in the world! not to mention a highly strung Collie who barks at the slightest noise at the door.
Anyone experienced this or similar Yodel/HDLN stories?
Maybe they get the postman to deliver "sorry you were out " cards for fun.?
had a real hassle with them and i get a lot of home delivery stuff via other shippers no problem, couple of cards without knocking, and a few no cards but on line system said had attempted delivery with times all of which i was at home for - i could only conclude that drivers are possibly self employed and doing the trip out and then taking back earns more?
I dunno, but you'd think the delivery man would get the hint after three times (assuming it's the same guy/gal) that I actually want my items and not a card!
Sign saying you are in when you are?

Not just me then?

I have left a sign on the door saying 'Knock Loudly', just in case they are not able to reach my giant knocker!
Yodel are notorious for slipping the "sorry you were out card" through the letterbox and not even bothering to ring. I've caught them in the act once and upon quizzing him why, his reply was "there wasn't a car on the drive".
****ers.
I guess it's far quicker to post a card than it is to wait for people to answer the door 🙄
here from an email trying to get goods reshipped after returned to supplier
" Yodel's customer service lines have a technical fault"
Would be better be described as systematic failure in customer service
No response to email sent after getting cut off on phone and not being able to recontact
No message when telephoning that had a system problem
No message on website that telephone calls would be cut off or just ring out due to system fault (over several days?)
Not possible to request on website collect from depot
Not an option on phone system to request collect from depot
Fairly sure falsified records of attempts to deliver was at home at 4 other times on log and at two of the times not the only person in the house and at one of the times listed was stood in driveway
No telephone call when instruction to redeliver not possible
I caught Royal mail once and when I pointed out he was breaking the law and i'd be telling on him, he quickly produced my parcel
I had a camera delivered by them last week. Got back from London about 2pm to see I'd just missed him by about 2 hours (card on doormat). Card had driver's phone number on it, so called him and he said he'd pop it round within the hour. 10 mins later, knock on door and camera delivered. Quite impressed to be honest!
Funny, but Yodel are my favourite couriers- for one reason: They actually come round when I'm IN! About 6pm - I actually thanked the bloke specifically for not trying to deliver during working hours like the stupid bloody Royal Mail.
Yodel are terrible. High points included failing to deliver a toddler car seat (that they confirmed was sat in their depot for a week) for reasons that neither Amazon nor I were able to elicit. I have suggested to smaller online businesses that use them that if they wish to retain my custom, then they'd better rethink their choice of courier.
Royal Mail are much maligned, but at least they have a delivery office in most towns that one can get to, instead of having to trundle off to sodding Trafford Park.

Not just me then?
Nope - another standard Yodel experience here: Awaiting delivery from Sports Pursuit, got the card, arranged to collect, drove 20 miles and turned up to find it's out in the van. "Sorry - new computer system" 🙄 Yeah, pull the other one.
Still, gotta give them credit as it was better than the time when they threw the delivery over the back garden fence!
Doubt we'll be ordering from Sports Pursuit again, unless they use a different courier. The time and effort spent dealing with the Yodel/HDNL pointlessness negates any savings... 😥
They were supposed to collect something I was returning and after a few no shows I just took it to the post office myself.
I forget the details but IIRC there were some very vaguely worded emails from them that seemed to imply a collection had been arranged, but on closer reading only confirmed a request for one so I wasn't really sure if they were coming or not. Bit rubbish.
Yodel are woeful at best. The last time they "delivered", I signed for an item even though I was 60 miles away when they delivered it!
The parcel containing £600+ of stuff and was dumped in the back garden in full view of the neighbours ... and the 10-storey tower block behind us. We don't live in the best of areas so I wasn't best pleased.
I'll not use a webshop that uses them nowadays given all the sh1t they get up to
I suppose it depends on the driver as one of my 'friends' on Facebook has commented on my status about this issue who is a driver for them.
He seems to think that drivers don't get paid for not delivering items and implied that there's no point in going to an address only to post a card and not the item for that reason if you have the item. In the same sentence he stated that they have 150 parcels to deliver and time is of the essence! Go figure!
Never had a problem with Yodel / HDNL. The Gloucester branch seem ok.
Don't get me started on DHL. Everything I've sent has been lost or damaged. Amazon used them for a while. They were leaving parcels in full view of the road even when we were in. The most expensive for Amazon was the debacle of the Henry Vac delivery. Big sticker on the box "DO NOT DROP"........ "BANG" on the door step...... Knock knock.......
I eventually made 1 good one out of 3 damaged ones and sent the others back. Amazon were fine about it, but the same thing 3 times!
The latest Next courier is just useless. The Wife ordered some large canvas prints. After sending 3 back because of damage she collected them from the store. The last one was thrown over the side gate. I was just the other side fettling the bikes when it just missed me. I would have wrapped it round the couriers head but he was already driving down the road by the time I got to the front gate.
You are aware that Yodel was formed as a combination of DHL and HDNL?Don't get me started on DHL
Very good experience with yodel here. Came home to a 'sorry you were out' card last night, delivery attempted at 5:45. Got home late so called the mobile number on the card this morning, woman answered 'how about between 8pm-9pm tonight' and just delivered now. That's great service.
yup my local yodel guy is great, turns up at 7pm ish to collect stuff, if im not home he comes back
local parcelforce guy is alright as well
generally you will have the same drivers, similar time everyday, be polite, ask how they are, tell them in future when you will be home, when you work, then they will deliver, they probably get as pissed of as you with the 5th failed delivery etc

thats because she is sitting at home, and delivers at night, after work, using a vehicle, that is not insured to carry goods for profit, or buisness use.
and probably not declareing the income to the tax man.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, that's awful, it really is. Still great service. And is it was a mobile telephone number she may not having been sitting at home, eating biscuits and coming up with other criminal plots.
Sometimes, very occasionally I use my own car to drive to a business meeting.
Will I meet the delivery woman in hell?
No, but you both may be waking home, for failing to take out the crrect insurance policy for your vehicle, and invalidating your insurance.

There is a problem with this theory in that the one I have comes earlier than 7am, doesn't knock and leaves no contact details on the card to ring them - they don't even date and time the thing!

My god man you need to lighten up, step down from your high horse, wake up and smell the coffee AND take a reality check.
i am just quoteing the law as repeated by a police officer a few months ago.
Car usage
You should select Social, Domestic and Pleasure if you, and all of the named drivers, only intend to use the vehicle for non-work activities eg:
•visiting friends and family
•shopping
•day trips, and holidays
and to travel to and from a regular place of work.
If you, or any of the named drivers will be using the vehicle to travel to and from various places of work (for example, visiting other offices) you will need to include business cover, so you should select Social, Domestic, Pleasure and Business Use.
If the vehicle is to be used for commercial travel, to provide goods or services or seek orders for goods or services, for example if you are:
•delivering items/carrying goods
•a sales person, agent or representative visiting clients, with the intention of selling goods/services
then you should choose Commercial Travelling.
Yeh I know the rules, still great service.

Didn't know that. Still no probs so far with Yodel. Never sent anything with them mind.
