Sincere apologies in advance...
My relatively technophobic mother would like a smart phone so she can use email, show her friends photos of the family, and call people. My knowledge of phones extends to Samsung and iPhone. She is looking around the £150 mark and would like something that will last a few years. I've had a quick look at 4Gadgets and there are some Samsung S9 around that price but I believe that they are a few years old now. Can anyone recommend something, maybe from the budget end of Samsung's catalogue or another manufacturer?
Again, apologies for the repetitive nature of the post.
Depending on the call aspect, need for signal on the move, etc. would a £150 tablet be a better bet? You can probably use duo for calling other mobile devices from home WiFi.
If a phone is the best bet then have a look on Hotukdeals and let the hive mind there do the searching.
My mum's got a Nokia 5.3 which she's happy with. Well, as happy as an 85 year old using a smartphone is ever likely to get.
Just last week I bought a Nokia G10 for £100 to see me through a period of losing my contract phone and waiting on the replacement arriving. To be fair, I was quite impressed with it apart from the camera (in comparison to a top of the range phone). Nokia promise Android support for the model for 3 years and I'm sure they also plant x amount of trees for each one sold.
I've just given it to my daughter and she prefers it to her older iPhone.
Reconditioned Pixel 3 or 4a. The built in spam protection and caller ID is brilliant and you have the advantage that you don't have about three apps installed for the same thing like you do with Samsung phones.
Poco X3 pro is on sale at £170 currently. I've got the Poco X3 NFC and it's great. I know it's more than your budget by £20 but the performance makes it really future proof, for the cost anyway.
S9 sounds ideal, I picked up a used (you would never believe it though) S10 from music magpie
My days of new phones are over.
Similar to above. I have a Google pixel 4. It's been great. The spam protection could be useful to reduce the chance of her getting hooked into something. I get very few in my text inbox, they all get diverted to the spam box.
