The world's most powerful electric locomotive. The Novocherkassk 4E5K has diesel / electric generators that have an installed capacity of 13 mW. Enough to power over 2000 homes. This equates to a mountain pulling 1,356 kN of tractive effort from 17,838 Russian horsepower.

The HP Victor was such an extraordinary looking aircraft, with that pointed faceted nose, the crescent-shaped swept wings and that beautiful swallow v-tail. Almost Art Deco. There’s one up at Bruntingthorpe, I spent a happy hour or so one afternoon wandering around the aircraft there.

There was a good program on BBC2 Sunday about the history of the V bombers. Cold war, hot jets. It'll be on the iPlayer no doubt. The Victor airframe wasn't robust enough for the low level approach that was needed once they realised they weren't flying above the range of USSR ground to air missiles apparently.
