I was exploring Yatley Heath Woods a week or so ago with the mini monsters and noticed a few old bike trails in the woods. I'm guessing that there are many more that need exploring, and but the woods do seem to have taken a bettering with the logging and the last winter... and I guess with Minley being next door its not used much any more? Oh and the lack or parking 🙁
Is it worth walking a few more times and clearing up some of the debris ? or is the logging set to continue and make it a waste of time ?
No idea on logging levels but I don't think it gets that much use over there by bikers. I've lived in the area for 10+ years and only ridden there a couple of times. Generally I think folk tend towards Minley Caesars camp over at Fleet.
Actually - which part are you referring to? South of (over the road from) Blackbush or next to Gibralter barracks? The latter probably sees a bit more use and is occasionally used for smaller events.
Yateley Heath woods, used to be awesome. Had some great trails courtesy of the gorrick races. But the heavy forestry work has destroyed all of it, much like Minley. Some local groups THT and local riders are trying to rebuild but from what I've seen at hawley woods, looks like the logging is set to continue for a while
South of blackbush...
And if the logging is going to continue then I guess that will be it 🙁
But if/when I wander that way again I'll do some more clearing just in case 🙂
How old are your kids? If they're young and easily entertained then Simons Wood between Crowthorne and Finchampstead might be worth a look. My two are 3 and 4 (one balance bike, one pedal) and we took them and the dog over there yesterday.
as above, it was good after the gorrick courses had been set but the loggers have trashed it
We did go & try & re-build some trials just after Xmas but went back a week later & they were trashed again - so given up for now
Will try again when the loggers have gone
Hope they go soon then !! 🙂
And thanks for the tip, will look over at simons woods - they are a similar age... but there are days when I'd say they are definitely not easily entertained 🙁 fortunately there are many that they are 🙂
