Just doing a bit of a clear out and found my old point and shoot camera. On a whim I thought I would have a look on Ebay. must be worth a couple of quid.

I was wrong, WTF, can anyone explain why they seem to be going for a couple of hundred pounds!

Might as well get a new battery, and anyone know where you can still get film and get it processed. Might be worth at least seeing if it still works.

Basically if you live in the right bit of London and have a beard then film is where it's at....

This thread just prompted me to see what I might get for my Olympus Mju that hasn’t been used for 10+ years, and it’s a similar story, though it is not clear how many actually get sold at that price!

Film is a bit like vinyl. I have a Contax and an old screw fit Pentax I keep meaning to get shut of.

well I have got a new battery and a cheap film, and it actually seems to work still. Final test will come after I get the film processed.

Then do I keep it or sell it?

T5 is a great camera but you don’t use it so sell it. I have an FM with 24 mm nikkor that I love. Son1 is learning how to use it. He’s also bought a record player 😀

All the Yashica T series cameras have the really good quality Carl Zeiss lenses. I used to have a T4 and it was the sharpest pictures I've ever seen from a compact camera. Damn the scrote who nicked it. I fancied getting another one for old times sake but like the OP was staggered at the selling price of these particular models. A quality piece of kit, I vote you should keep it.

Sell on Ebay. The price of getting photos printed from film is daft. I had a Contax T3, got it in a Currys closing down sale for £250. Abused it for a couple of years backpacking etc then sold for £300!

Dug my mju out tonight - incredibly the battery still had life (just) after what must be at least 10 years - also it had a role of Velvia 50 in it with one frame left, so I finished it off of course. Now to find a processor - I’m guessing my prepaid Fuji vouchers are no longer valid 😂

The T5 is one of those camera's that have a cult following for film enthusiasts, the waist level view finder probably being the unique feature coupled with a good lens.

If you aren't set up to develop your own it's an expensive toy

If you can do black and white it's still expensive at £4 a film plus chemicals and 40p a sheet for 8x10 but a lot more fun

Would make a great street photography tool with fomopan 400, pushed to 1600 for the dark months/ indoor shoots

Would love to have it but you'll get more of fleabay or specialist forums

Never seen a t5, but I've had a t3 for decades and it's still in use. I shoot B&W with a Leica M, and keep the little Yashica loaded with Portra 400. I'm dreading the day it packs in, couldn't afford to replace it. Point and shoot Yashicas were used by Ryan McGinley and Terry Richardson, prices reflect that, despite the reputation of the latter.

Gonna have to dig mine out and see what they go for. I did have a Pentax Spotmatic and K1000 years ago but now just have (I think) a couple of newer EOS-style Canons.

i had one back when i shot film, had a fantastic zeiss fixed lens and a neat viewfinder.
doesn't mean other film compacts laying in a drawer are worth a fortune though, they need to be an enthusiasts and high quality camera in the first place (like a contax T or Ricoh GR1)

Not worth a fortune, no. But increasingly hard to find something like a Mju 2 for sensible money... I'm looking for one for my niece and have bought a couple of duffers already.

well i tested it, remembered why i liked it but i am never going to use it to justify the processing costs, and so have put it on ebay and bemused i think is one way to look at it.

Lots of watchers, and lots!! of offers to buy it, all the offers are very low. but then if it has so little value why am i getting contacted by Americans, Japanese etc.

Just wait and see what happens,

As an aside, is there a smallish digital camera that would be a more modern equivalent? I have a Panasonic GF1 but it is on the bulky side with the kit lens, would simply getting a prime be enough? Or are there any compacts worth looking at?

Comical. A few years ago you couldn't give them away! Good luck with the sale.

Fuji UK quit E6 processing some years ago. I haven't shot slides for a while but was always happy with the service from https://www.the-darkroom.co.uk/ in Cheltenham.
Peak Imaging in Sheffield also have a good reputation - https://www.peak-imaging.com/about/film.processing
Also in Brum - https://www.ag-photolab.co.uk/

The digital camera that has caught my attention is the Sony RX100 series. Zoom range is short but that means it's really small and you get superb image quality. The III seems best bang for buck at ~£500.

@bob_summers working mju-II models are rare nowadays, unlike the premium compacts they aren't cared for and the internals aren't quite as robust.
