I have for the past few years given my staff a gift at Xmas (not a Xmas Bonus but a gift from me personally).

Mostly I can find something appropriate and the gifts have been well received. But this year I am stumped - I have an 18 year old female apprentice she is excellent at her job and I want to say thanks with a gift (say £100). He main hobby is horse riding but she has already bemoaned the fact that everyone buys presents for her horse rather than for her.

Any suggestions?

if she is an apprentice and i assume not well paid [ not a dig] just give her £100 who doe snot like getting money and that is a decent sum there.

What sort of horse riding is she into? Maybe you could get tickets for one of the big events e.g Badminton.

As above, either money or tickets to an event, Horse of the Year show, Ascot, Badminton (the event, not sport)

If booze is an option, half case of champagne?

If not - food hamper? If she doesn't like it she can re-gift it.

18 year old female - vouchers , let her go shopping. If there's a big shopping centre near you, get vouchers that mean you can use in all shops in the centre.

I have had this problem, although not that budget.

Vouchers almost always the way forward. Ask somebody of her age where is the cool place to shop - the last time I asked it was Holisters but that may have changed...

'm not. Didn't even mention riding....or giving her a helmet.....or high leather boots and riding crops 😳

Also didn't point out that the OP mntioned Staff (presumably plural) but seems to be focused entirely upon an 18 year old female apprentice. 😉

That's a stupid idea, how's a horse supposed to hold the racquet?

You'd need to find out what type of riding she does.

IME riders aren't as bothered about kit as cyclists so most of what they need is clothing which is always hard to buy for someone else.

Gloves, Chaps, Crop, Silks, seat saver, grooming kit* would be the easiest ones.

*although this falls under "presents for horse"?

A small gift and some vouchers might be easier - find out where your best local riding shop is (or give cash with a letter).

I did mention staff plural, but they are all happy with some John Lewis vouchers.

As for the 'other type' of suggestions - she is younger that my youngest son so get your dirty minds out of the gutter.

I was just wondering if there is some cool must have gift or equally cool store that all 18 year old girls are shopping at. John Lewis vouchers don't seem right for a youngster.

John Lewis sell 'cool' electronics so I don't see a problem. Best to treat all staff equally, or at least get the 18yr old some alternative shopping vouchers - it might look a bit weird (/creepy) if you get her something different to the other members of staff.

So after taking your advice - I went to the local John Lewis yesterday - all of the staff (there are 3) have now got a nice box of Hotel Chocolate chocs and a John Lewis voucher coming their way.

As fionap said, best to treat everyone equally.
