Currently looking to buy one. As I'm really missing Forza and the Forza Horizon series. I currently have a PS4 pro hooked up to the 4k telly and Nintendo switch.
So looking to get a Xbox for when the other half is telly hogging, so it will be used with a 32 inch 1080p monitor that I use for my PC.
Would the S or X be better?
The only practical difference is that the X supports 4K gaming. If you're ever going to use it on the telly then get the X, otherwise it's a waste of money. The S will run everything the X will only at 1080p.
Does the monitor have HDMI inputs?
Also - if you get the Game Pass (which is on offer at the moment), it includes FH4 so you don't have to drop £40 on it.
Yeah got hdmi inputs.
Only want to catch up with the Forza Series and play a few Xb360 games like Fable. Will end up flogging both when PS5 drops and the Nextbox.
Was using PC for gaming but it's a complete ball ache, so it's been turned into a photo editing machine now.
Three Fables on Game Pass too.

BTW, PS5 is a couple of years away yet, it'd seem. Speculated for a Xmas 2020 release.
‘s’ great for a FH3 or FH4 sesh.
There doesn’t seem to be a definitive word on it, but the ‘S’ does do 4K gaming, but not as well.
Yeah just nothing compares to FH3/4 on the PS4 and even though I enjoy GT sport on the Ps4 its poor in comparison to Forza 7.
I did have a Original Xbox 1 on release day but all my mates went down the Ps4 route so I flogged it for a Pro in 2016.
But as I say missing the Forza series and Gamepass looks intriguing.
What swung it for me for the X was the 4K Blu-ray player and the 1tb hd.
I traded in an old Xbox for a PS4 (which backfired spectacularly when I discovered its audio output wouldn’t play with my sonos system) so went back to Xbox with the X.
Not played forza for years but got it with the x and I have to say it’s ace, especially in 4K.
Just trying to convince myself do I really need to slap £259 quid on my credit card or not.
Supposed be paying it off.
Its nowhere near its limit like.

There is and no it doesn't.
The One S supports 4K video but not 4K gaming. It'll upscale games for a 4K TV, sure, but so will a 4K TV.

... both of which are present on the One S also.
The only practical difference is that the X supports 4K gaming.
I thought most games look and play better on the X regardless of 4k? Would seem a slight expense to get the X over the S but even if you don't have a 4k TV now the chances are you'll get one at some point so why not get the better machine?
I’ve just got a 1TB Xbox one S as a gift.
It plays 4K UHD discs and my 4K TV is saying it’s receiving a HDR signal - Red Dead and the Forza’s picture look bloody good to me!
It'll play 4K movies in 4K.
It'll play 4K games at 1080p.
HDR is supported on both IIRC (in fact, I'm fairly sure my original One does too).
If you can afford it get the x, if you can't then get the s.
Even if you only have a 1080p screen, a lot of games on the x have a 1080p 60frames per second mode, in addition to a 4k at 30 fps mode.
Fh4 in 1080p at 60fps is excellent, it's how I choose to play it, even though I have a 4k screen. I prefer 1080p at 60fps over 4k at 30fps.
Also, Rdr 2 in 4k on the one x looks fantastic.
The s will only do 1080p at 30 fps in Fh4, and even then I think its a lower res upscale to 1080p rather than natively rendered at 1080p
you can get 6 months of gamepass for about £25 if you shop around

Why doesn't it play through your sonos?
I'm still in two minds, I must admit I'm not really a lover of the PlayStation exclusives. Gran Turismo Sport is a big let down. I don't care for TLOU, Uncharted is just pretty much Tomb Raider.
Most of the Games I play are Multiplatform.
I do however love the Forza series, Gears of War is enjoyable and I absolutely loved the Fable Series.
I can either get a One S and connect to my Monitor. Or do I flog all my PS4 Pro gear at Game and get the X. And keep that till the next generation drops?
Well, I’ve got RDR2 playing in 2160p via my S at the moment.
Virgin box shows as 1080i so it’s not the TV pushing that resolution.
Well, I’ve got RDR2 playing in 2160p via my S at the moment.
Your xbox S is only rendering at 872p, then upscaling to 1080p. So either your TV in incorrectly reporting the resolution or your TV is upscaling the 1080p output from the xbox to 2160p.
Have a read of this:-
WHat is 100% certain is that the one s cannot do games at 4k, it struggles to do 1080p in some cases (RDR 2 for example)
Can’t do the quote thing. Was getting mixed up as I was at one point considering the ps pro but it was that that wont play Blu-ray 4K.
As mentioned the xbox s ‘only’ upscales games to 4K but the Xbox x will output ‘enhanced’ games at 4K.
The PS4 outputs some Blu-ray audio via dts which sonos can’t decode irrespective of what it’s output is set to. Some Blu-rays would play in stereo others wouldn’t. Shit for sonos for how much it costs (all down to licensing apparently) but with hindsight I should have looked into it properly beforehand.
Any Xbox can decide dts on the fly to 5.1 which my sonos 5.1 system of course acccepts.
