I've just bought an xbox headset so my son can chat to his mates while playing Fortnite.

However, I've just realised that his controller doesn't have a 3.5mm socket, ds I've got nothing to plug the headset into.

A quick check on Amazon shows adaptors, but they're all £25 + and don't get great reviews.

I've also seen wireless headsets, which use Bluetooth. Our controllers have a Bluetooth symbol on them, so would these work without an adaptor?

Advice gratefully received!

I'm a bit confused here. As I understand it the earliest controllers didn't have a 3.5mm jack, the later ones did. The One X controllers (I think, maybe One S also) supported BT but that was so you could use them on a PC. What's the console / how old?

Early xboX one.

An audio adaptor needed to plug in to the controller.

This adaptor is no longer stocked by high street shops. Built in obsolescence - taking a leaf from apples book?

The early controllers didn't have the jack and there was an outcry so they changed it. You're right though, the adaptors are silly prices.

I doubt that BT will work in the way you suggest.

I picked up a new pad from argos for £39.99.

It's the 'for Windows' version but same pad with headphone socket and £10 cheaper than the normal ones.

Might be an idea of you only have one pad?

The One X controllers (I think, maybe One S also) supported BT but that was so you could use them on a PC.

All controllers that have the X button surrounded by the front face as opposed to the shoulder face are BT enabled. So yeah, that includes the S.

Did that include the adaptor? Hmm, I was looking for one of those...

Newer pads don't need an adapter, it's just the initial batch that did .

For PC you need to have bluetooth 4.0 on the PC, or buy the wireless adaptor.

However the windows pad comes with a USB cable too so you can use it wired.
