My sons xbox 360 (old ahape) has gotten the dreaded RROD but the single light not 3. Error code is E73 and fault code is 1201 which all point to the ethernet port.
Does anyone know if this is fixable? I mean properly not the 'stop the fan' or 'towel' methods. He doesn't need the ethernet, it is not on xbox live so is there any way of bypassing it?
I have searched the web, i can find the cowboy method so thought i would ask here to see if anyone can help.
Cheers
sorry, error code 1021 🙂
No chance of a warranty repair? I had one done and it was no hassle.
If not, I used a place in Dundee to repair a 2nd hand Xbox I had. Think it was these guys - http://www.skprepair.co.uk/xbox-360-repair.php?gclid=CJPyxvqFiLECFVQqfAodNkoLMw
I herd the ps3 is a great fix for your problem? ........ Ive used Microsoft for repairing my x box before my 360 was out of warranty an they sorted it foc always worth a call?
Cougar of this forum can fix them according to yesterdays 360 thread 🙂
Thanks for the replies, will look into the options.
Don't think i will be able to get a warranty repair, someone before him has obviously opened it up - marks around join and the microsoft label is half ripped (underneath the facia) checked earlier after seeing the marks.
console wizard in Bolton are currently fixing mine!
I went through a period of buying RROD x boxes and trying to fix them.
Oven bake worked best for me and worked well if prepped properly. There were a few failures too, mind. One of those was an E73 which refused to heal. Killed it with a heat gun in the end...
I've had a 100% success rate with the one I've fixed previously (-:
If the warranty seal is broken then an MS repair is out. You're looking at third party repairs. A quick Google would suggest you can get it done for around £40. I'm happy to have a go if you like, but I won't be any cheaper than that; it needs parts and it's a fairly lengthy process (but nothing like the ballache that the PS3 equivalent is).
Variations on the 'cowboy' method is the only option without specialist tools. It needs the solder points reflowing under the CPU / GPU, and that's beyond the reach of most hobbyist repairers.
It depends what state the board's in though, if some ham-fisted eejit has massacred the board or it's been "repaired" before then that could easily complicate issues.
Where are you geographically? I can't imagine postage is overly cheap, if you find somewhere reasonably local (I'm in East Lancs) then that's probably your best bet.
The other option of course is just to write it off and get a shiny 360 Slim. It'll probably pay for itself in 12 months in saved electricity.
