I’m a big fan of the fit of these shoes. My current set are battered but before I order some new ones anything similar out there.

They offer a wide toe box and a reasonable tread pattern although I would prefer a more aggressive sole. Mud Claws are (at least the ones I have) are just a smidge too narrow.

The grip on the Mud claws isn't hugely better than the X Talons. I had some of the 275s and thought they were pretty close to the Mud Claws.

The 'Classics' are slightly wider at a scale 2 but they've obviously decided that people that wear mudclaws have narrow feet!

VJ seem to be a popular choice at the moment, might be worth a look?

Will have a mooch at VJ

inov-8 class the Ultras as 4 for width, and I think different X Talons have different grip patterns with the Ultras being a bit more trail than others. Part of this might be the relatively large drop on my current shoes.

I had some X Claw 275s, which were the same grip as yours, I got the names mixed up. The Mud claws are better than X Talons, but the sole unit on your model is better than the Talons, not as good as Mud Claws but I found it was fine.

So I'd say that in your case the fit is more important than the marginal gain in grip you'll get from the Mud Claws.
