Over the last few weeks I’ve been banging out job applications and had various interviews, mostly unsuccessful however last Monday I got offered (and accepted) job 1.

On Thursday I interviewed for job 2. I still went along to this interview, even though I had accepted job 1, for the experience as it was for one of my dream employers. I didn’t expect to get the job, however yesterday I had been given the nod, I’m over the moon but now I’m stuck as to what to do.

Job 1 is part-time, 20 hours per week Monday to Friday and every other Saturday, permanent

Job 2 is Thursday and Friday only. Seasonal. With dream employer and is a good foot in the door.

Job 1 did mention that there is some flexibility in the hours (but from a overtime perspective).

In an ideal world I’d do both jobs with doing my 20 hours for job 1 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

I’ll speak to job 1 on Monday but don’t know how best to word/discuss it, tell the truth or make something up? I really do want both jobs and don’t want to let either down.

What would you do?

Tell the truth.

Just speak to them and see if would let you work your hours on those days. If they say no, take the job with your "dream" employer.

Can I be nosey and ask what it is and why they are a dream employer?

It’s with the National Trust

Cool. They were advertising for wardens up here in Northumberland, in 5 years time I might be able to afford to take it.

Employers taking on staff with 20 hour contracts will be used to employees having other jobs too and should also be used to switching working hours to deal with it.

Personally I'd favour permanent over seasonal work. That's based on my own desire for stability but also what I see from working with others in seasonal roles and the hassles my daughter has with seasonal jobs too.

(IIRC anything above 16 hours isn't officially part-time.)

Is job one mon-fri for any specific reason? eg. Staffing a shop or being on the end of a phone?

If it's just because they only need 20hrs per week, I'd expect them to show some flexibility for a good candidate. You possibly have more leverage now than if you'd known at the outset TBH.
