ok, I'm calling on the STW hive mind for some help here.
Can anyone recommend WWII, London Blitz era, themed music, something suitable for.. oh lets say... a memorial service?
all my tired little brain can come up with is "there'll be bluebirds over..." but I'm wondering if anyone might know anything more classically based, or classical
thanks,
greg
Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem"
Vaughan-Williams symphony no 5
Shostakovich - Symphony No. 8
are you looking for soemthign with a bit of 'big band/swing' (Count Basie etc) or soemthign that's fairly sombre but fromt he same era?
jahwomble, thanks !!
wwaswas.. on the sombre side, but from that era ( see my post "celebrity death news" )
it seems bad taste to play at a funeral but my grandad want "wish me luck as you wave me goodbye" at his funeral, funny and sad at the time, but seems fitting now

rocketdog.. I like it... at the service for my mum -in-law we played "lion sleeps tongiht" as the final piece of music.. people practically danced out of the hall.
Glen Miller was very popular during WWII.
Glen Miller's signature tune was [url=
Serenade[/url] which would probably work at a funeral.
What about Vera Lynn?
There's a track "Glen Miller is missing" in the Rock Follies tv series - though I think it was written for the series in the 70s.
All the WW2 generation in my family love it.
thanks all ! , I'll put all the suggestions into a working list to review with mrs. G.
^^^^ gawd, what a **** do I sound like ."working list" "review with.."
