Anyone else watching this? It's really really good. Im impressed, quality is like an Asif kapadia documentary
Highly recommended.
Even if you don't care about hip hop it's well worth a watch
The first episode (clan assemble!) Is fascinating with the origin stories; method Man going back to his old job at the statue of liberty and doing some sweeping etc
If you know anything about the clan fallout then you'd know that getting all of them together in a cinema watching the doc in real time (a great storytelling device) is a big deal
All the clan come across well (as you'd expect I suppose) but even U God, the most bad tempered one, is a lovely guy. meth predictably comes across as a really top guy
The archive footage is amazing: you see odb crying on the phone to RZA and endless skunk filled flats and studios. One criticism is that the music is looked over as it's RZA beats that will stand the test of time, and little understanding of how he went from 'we love you rakeem' to 'glaciers of ice' or '4th chamber,' in a couple of years other than the record company made him. Prince rakeem is like fresh prince. Also some broad strokes: you can tell Mitchell Diggs is doing well as he is filmed talking sat on the back of his yacht
Odb who had an unhinged and scary reputation is shown to be lovable and tragic.
topically, there's shocking stories of racial tension in Staten Island and in episode 3 one of their mates, sorry homies, is killed by police on the roadside with some dodgy restraint techniques
You realise their brushes with the law, jail stints, are almost inevitable due to their race and social positioning although odb didn't help his case by breaking parole to turn up and play a show unannounced!
It's great: really enjoying it.
Its an absolutely fantastic documentary. Almost makes up for how bad the GZA was when I saw him doing Liquid Swords last year!
Just found episode 1 online - thanks!
I didn’t know about this, thanks for posting.

Great album, not good live then?
Hmm, you'd think someone might've mentioned this

That "art piece" album. What a bag of shit balls-up that was. You'd think they could devalue it from the dick that bought it by releasing it online or something.

Agreed. I'm not that fussed about wu tang post 2000, apart from ghostfaces albums
RZA was on the Joe Rogan podcast and said that that album is currently impounded by the Feds or something
But yeah it backfired in about the worst possible way and made RZa look like a prize goon
That was the album with the single copy that the "Pharma Bro" bloke bought wasn't it? Then he got arrested and it's an asset?
Yep
I'm 2 episodes in, really interesting doc and agree they all come across really well, also on the sentiment about ODB.
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is an all time great album.
what's it on sorry?

sad that America has not changed much it seams.

I thought my thread was invisible, but that's ridiculous! 😆

Trump has a cameo in on Method Man's solo album
Never did get that one !
Cheers OP
Love me some Wu

No Not at all, their mate gets killed by cops and a young Rudy guiliani pops up and defends the police.
As an aside, I remember seeing the MTV cribs where raekwon does a tour of their LA mansion wearing his flip flops with socks and seeing them all living together like a hippy commune or lavish house share
Also they must have made it a condition that Sky let them smoke blunts as they're talking to the camera. It was a deal breaker
I'm only 3 episodes in, does masta killa get to say anything, apart from a bit in the first episode?
what’s it on sorry?
Sky documentaries. I have Sky and it just popped up on the docs channel. You might have to suck Murdoch's cock to watch it, unless it's streamed online somewhere

One of their best, 'glaciers of ice' my favourite Wu song. Raekwon is the black trump apparently. Hasn't aged well, I mean the trump reference. The song is amazing
Sorry getting my Wu mixed up. The black trump reference is in 'incarcerated scarfaces'
To be fair 90s rappers were all referencing trump as he was a new York guy
Great album, not good live then?
In my top 5 albums of all time but he absolutely couldn't be arsed on the night, the sound was abysmal, he performed the tracks in a completely random order that was different from the album, and mid way through he brought out some awful new group to perform some of their tracks and they were utter garbage. I walked out before the end as did a lot of the crowd
Method Man x Menance skate vid. Clearly remember sitting down and watching this for the first time, still love this track;
I've always had a soft spot for inspectah deck and he gets some awe and respect for his 'cream' verse in the doc, which I think references melle Mel from the message 'stick up kids, corrupt cops and crack rocks and stray shots all on a block that stays hot'
The doc doesn't touch upon the studio flood that apparently destroyed the master tapes to his first album and effectively stalled his career, but hewas always one of the sharpest rappers, along with GZA.
His guest verses were legendary:
...and 'cold world' off liquid swords which is like a sequel to 'cream'

Wu wear was/is trash, effin awful. I'm sure Ali G's bright yellow tracksuit was Wu wear. To be fair I'm perhaps not the target audience. Not to my taste
I like RZAs leather jacket in the doc thiugh

You can offer a quick HJ instead via Now TV monthly passes. Free offers for new subscribers and loads of discounted passes and offers on HUKD. What's best is when you buy a month you can cancel 5 seconds after and it'll still run for the period, so little risk of it rolling and you dropping extra cash.
Currently razzing through Sopranos (not sure why its taken til now) so will have a bit of Wu Tang too.
Im more of a hip-hop fan than the more brutal rappers but WU had some fantastic base lines and songs. Add the poverty and inequality that tbh I could not comprehend living in the UK, some of the songs of that era are almost historical evidence of the USA.
Do the right thing was on TV last week and nothing has changed that film could have been released today
2 Episodes in and its a great watch . Up there with 'The Evolution of Hip Hop' which had 2 seasons on Netflix.
And sky is no longer under the ownership of the dark lord
