We were down in Croyde at the weekend, excellent surf conditions, 3-4foot surf, offshore wind, glorious sunshine.
However, we had to contend with the Christian surf competition, WTF has religion got to do with surfing???

Would you have complained if it was just a surfing competition then?

No more than any other group who take a interest in surfing these happened to be Christians who formed a group. The name was the clue.

Jesus was a surfer.

Long unkempt hair, straggly beard, sandals.

The whole “walking on water” thing was just, like, a metaphor, dude!

Jesus was a Capricorn
He ate organic food
He believed in love and peace
And never wore no shoes
Long hair, beard and sandals
And a funky bunch of friends
Reckon we'd just nail him up
If he came down again

Because any surf competition, religious or not, keeps a section of beach reserved for the competition.

Sneaky edit there...

Ha ha at least the Antichrist of surf didn’t turn up (that’ll be me).

I’m cursed with the ability to turn the largest raging Devon/Cornish surf into a millpond just by looking at it.

'Walking on water' is a mistranslation of 'surfing on water' in King James Bible, which was published in 1611 a good 10 years before the introduction of surfing into England. As to why it's not been corrected, well, that would be an ecumenical matter.

Acts 27

39 When it was day, they did not recognize the land; but they observed a bay with a beach, onto which they planned to run the ship if possible.

40 And they let go the anchors and left them in the sea, meanwhile loosing the rudder ropes; and they hoisted the mainsail to the wind and made for shore.

41 But striking a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence of the waves.

42 And the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim away and escape.

43 But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land,

44 and the rest, some on boards and some on parts of the ship. And so it was that they all escaped safely to land.

The Jesus surf classic has been running for decades and is one of the biggest and longest established UK competitions.

Regardless of any religious connections it’s always going to dominate any beach.

As religious extremism goes it's surely towards the more acceptable end of the spectrum?

Question we asked ourselves was where does it stop?-
Surfing seems a non-religious past-time, a bit like mountain biking, seems a bit of a pisser when religion links up to a past time, that's all....

You're going to have explain that one as why does a group who happen to be religious have an effect on a sport?

Why does it even matter and what makes you think surfing is for none religious people.

It's a Christian Group who surf I'm struggling to see why you have an issue with that?

Or maybe Cyncial is right on both points.

Which bit about a like minded group of people getting together and doing an activity is "a pisser" and why?

Maybe God had blessed them with a nice day and you benefited from it. Try following them and see if there's something in it! 😀

You're going to shit a brick when you find out why Clarion is a common cycling club name.

See “Red Rope” socialist walking and climbing club.

Or Clarion cycle clubs (twice for emphasis)

The church of England own Llandegla and are the wealthiest landowners in the world.

They put the Cross into Cross Country

Firstly great fact about Llandegla

Secondly my answer to the question "should we ban religious groups from trail centres?" Is "no"

It was a question designed to show the absurdity of the OPs position
