I've go una stubbs [1] on the front page saying 18 mins last entry was 5 days ago, clicking on the the freshness takes you to a random place in the thread.
bounce!
If I don't even see this thread unless i go specifically to the chat forum
But if you pay for it...
I was getting this yesterday but it's fine for me now.
It has been having some updates, this has caused some issues for some users. They seem to be correcting themselves now, but if there are still some you can report them to tech.
DNS changes to make ads work better apparently. I get a working site on my home PC, but if I use my remote desktop in the office it doesn;t work
I've had a few issues over the last couple of weeks (but that's not important right now) where both "bike" and "off-topic" forums just have a single page of posts rather than the "page one of x" with links to pages of older posts. An hour or so later and things are back to normal.
Also get threads listed out of order after posting but that's probably a caching issue and really hard to fix and probably not by STW themselves.
Whenever I load threads that I know I've posted on, all my witty and insightful posts have been replaced with those of some argumentative crank. What's that about?
Been unusable for me for the last couple of days. Can't log in and have been caught in the Una Stubbs time warp.
But if you pay for it…
I paid for it for over 10 years, it was shite lots of times.

It's a feature
For ****'s sake. If it's not working then please turn the ****in site off. I've tried posting about 5 times and can't see shit.
Ahem

That's because your post contained so many image links the system marked it for our attention as possible spam. I've manually approved it now.
Damn, was two seconds to late to remove my rant.
Got rid of the pics though.
Thought I was going mad.
Sorry for the game of whackamole Mark
Can someone sort my ****ing PM notification Mark? It’s ridiculous.

@Mark - how many image links causes this behaviour? Might be a good idea if it was documented somewhere so folk could post without requiring intervention.
Security through obscurity.
Mark: "anything with ten links in it will be flagged for review"
Spammer: "fantastic" creates a thread with nine links
What happened to dark mode?
On my desktop and phone the screen is black. When I log in it turns white.
It's like staring at a light bulb and it's harder to hide at work!
Darkmode settings are in your account preferences.. https://singletrackmag.com/account/preferences/
@Mark - so if posting on here, posting in the Members forum and emailing tech doesn't get my issue resolved (or even acknowledged), please can you advise how to go about it? Thanks.
Why do you need to post so many images in one post that it trips the spam filter? Is there no better way of doing what you're trying to achieve?
Trip/ride reports would be the obvious answer....of which @scotroutes posts some absolute belters!
Thanks Tom. Yep, that's the reason and it has worked fine in the past, for me and for many others, so something changed fairly recently. I guess the spam filter can't (currently) differentiate between links to images and pages full of links to hooky medicines, counterfeit documents etc. Seems like a bit of a blunt tool. Even knowing what the limit is would help so I'll do my testing as planned.
It’s possible something has ‘reset’ during the latest patch. Members and certainly past regular posters shouldn’t be caught by the spam filter.
@Drac - yeah, quite possibly. I did send an email to Tech but I'm not expecting a 24 hour turnaround 😉
Edit: are the Mods now getting alerts to review posts and, if so, is it just new threads or also replies?
Ta.
Security through obscurity.
Mark: “anything with ten links in it will be flagged for review”
Spammer: “fantastic” creates a thread with nine links
Good point. I think we should make it really secure... howabout you change it so that whatever the user types in, the backend dumps that and just refreshes the page. Then whatever evil stuff someone might have typed in will be nullified and they'll be none the wiser what happened. Especially if you don't have any messages telling them.
Security through obscurity.🙄
It would also have the side benefit that the STW front page threads ( still a bit disappointed that I've still not received a congratulations for that idea😘) wouldn't be cluttered up with user forum posts. 😉
I think the "massive number of links" refers to those spam posts that offered fake passports for every country on earth and the like.
Writing checks that differentiate between spam links and genuine ones is very difficult, especially ones that don't rely on white or black lists and so need constant management. As far as a computer is concerned what's the difference between ten links to flikr.com and ten links to evilcorp.com? While we see images from one and spam from the other, automated content analysis is hard which is why many people rely on Google, etc. to do it.
Logged in ( paying member) ...page full of adverts..😕😕

Have you disabled Ads?
Let me know if you can still see them. We've been running a short test for the last 20 minutes that probably caused that.
Trip/ride reports would be the obvious answer….of which @scotroutes posts some absolute belters!
Sounds like what he needs there is a blog.
Security through obscurity.🙄
Yes yes, I didn't say it was great. Point was, white-boxing a black box isn't particularly smart.
Sounds like what he needs there is a blog.
So, in a choice of driving traffic to this site or to many alternatives you prefer the latter? I can see why you handed in your Mods badge.
Thanks for thinking of our traffic when posting on the forum. Appreciated.
So, in a choice of driving traffic to this site or to many alternatives you prefer the latter?
I have no preference either way, it makes no odds to me. I'm just offering a suggestion. If I were regularly posting image-heavy insights into my life, I'd start my own blog then everything was in one place for convenient perusal.
So everyone gets replies except me. I guess I'm no longer wanted as a subscriber 🤷
Ads gone now 👍👍. Was on Mobile.
Sorry you are feeling left out Dez. I'm currently in a drum lesson. Have you tried this?
https://singletrackmag.com/help/
It's an option in either your profile or your account settings page. Go switch it on.
Failing that, check your spam folder.
Thanks, feel better now I've been acknowledged, but still got the thing showing 1 unread message. I have filled in the error/bug report thing, yes. I'll try it again
Filled in the error report. When I was doing it, it was deja vu, definitely have done before.
Still got the 1 message icon showing 🙁
please fix it. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASSSSSSSEEEEE!!!!! I beg on bended knees. Pretty please. Pretty please with sugar on. PRITTY please with a ice gem. PLEEEEEEASE GET RID OF THE THING!
There. Fixed it for you.
Oh, its 1 again 😥
Oooh, now I've been shopping for coffee! I don't drink the muck!

WTF indeed!
Nothing? No explanation as to how 12 items of £100 value have randomly appeared in my shopping basket?
Adverts back on my mobile..... .
Mine too, logged in phone, android
Here too, logged in on Firefox on a laptop.
And here, Edge on a PC
**edit** and, blimey, there's a lot of 'em, in't there?
Sorry about the ads there.
We are about to activate a major change in the way ads get served on the site by partnering with a new company called Ezoic. They use AI and machine learning to optimise ad display based on user personalisation. All a fancy way of saying if you don't click an ad in a particular position it guides where ads will appear for you in the future.
To make this work we have had to create a way for the Ezoic system to recognise that you are Full Members so they don't show you any ads at all. We've done that but we have to get the complicated logic right... lots of 'If user is X AND Y or Z then show no ads". I reckon that 20 minutes ago we got that logic wrong. We are fixing it now.
Message deleted after reading Mark's post.
Keeping you updated here. We have turned off the system until we can work out why the member recognition logic isn't working properly. Ads should now be gone.
While you are here - the menu link bar at the top of the forum is messed up, there's no margin or padding between each item so you have "OverviewBike ForumChat ForumMembers ForumNews ForumHelp"
Can you send a screenshot to the tech guys via the help link bottom left?

Weird. It looks fine for me. I don't have Drac's ipad though....just Chrome on a Win laptop & on my Pixel 4a.
The new ad system is on right now. It's in learning mode so so you may see ads in odd places or even blank spaces. Bear with us it should sort itself out over time.
Have done Mark. Looks like this:

The links still work, they just aren't very pretty!
Can you report that on the help link? Then let us know what browser you are using etc.
Have done, 😉

Have you reported it to the Tech guys? Hoping someone stumbles across your post isn’t going to get a a quick response.
Hoping someone stumbles across your post isn’t going to get a a quick response
No but nor will reporting it and maybe Dez feels better for sharing his angst. At least he got some sort of response
Is there anything my end that could be preventing me from seeing the classifieds?
Using chrome on an iPhone. No adblockers or anything fancy.

I email, I error report and when I get no response I post in the forum.
Now it comes to £100 being shopped by some unknown means, you would've thought that would deserve an explanation or even a ****ing acknowledgment, but no. So my sub I've had for about 20 years is cancelled. Not something I want to support any longer.
@Drac - my last two emails to tech@ received no response. I'm not denying that they might be overwhelmed but your expectation of that being the best route might need recalibrated.
Thanks for answering my question Dez it allows me to feedback if I know what steps you have taken so far. I can now see about raising your issue some more.
It’s still a better route than posting on the forum alone, the tech boys tend not to look at the forum much. It would the equivalent of me driving around on my days off patching folk up.
Having raised a bug - see a few posts above - I notice that the reporting page has been updated a bit. It should be possible that you get an automated email to say that the report has been received - other similar (to the user) systems do so. It would help assuage fears that the report hasn't just disappeared into a black hole.
I'm getting massive, page sized ads even when I'm logged in (which I have to keep doing).
@john_l they switched to a new ad server. It caused an issue where some full members revived ads, it fixed itself for most. However, not all others had to clear the STW cookie. Try the tool on here.
https://singletrackmag.com/login-problems/
I'm getting ads on my Pixel4a and MS Edge. Laptop with Windows 10 and Edge is fine.
Got adds on iPad Pro & iPhone xs (safari iOS 14.7.1) whenever I return to stw after browsing another open tab, cleared cookies etc but makes no difference. And the grey/black delineation of thread posts sometimes blend into one colour.
It astonishes me that people can have been members for 20 years and still expect personal responses from a tech team of two people. Can you imagine how much work that would generate if there were a site-wide bug?
Should stuff appearing in your shopping cart merit a response? Probably.
Why didn't you get a response? Maybe they're too busy with the work Mark's been talking about for the last two pages. Maybe they don't know. Would "we don't know" have made you feel validated or would it have you hitting the forum complaining about that?
Why did it happen? I could speculate but it likely won't help you. It wouldn't have been intentional if that's what you're insinuating.
Does it really matter? If it'd checked out then that would be a different story, but it was just a random glitch. It's not like you wouldn't have and indeed didn't spot it. I've had it happen to me on other sites a few times over the years, ended up with someone else's cart. I hit delete, changed my password just in case though that was probably unnecessary, and got on with my life.
Cougar really drunk the Kool-Aid when he was a moderator eh? 😘
Should stuff appearing in your shopping cart merit a response? Probably
Nah, definitely. Along with an apology. I’m a free member, so always feel content with the way things are. However, whenever anyone complains or moans about anything they get short shrift and a “what do you expect?, you should do this/that or go away” response.
