I may be coming into the market for a smart phone soon.
The missus has an Android but I've been looking at the WP8's that are currently available and quite like the look of those.
any reason not to go for the WP8 given that it's a relatively new platform or get the more established android alternative?
Just to add, I'm not in the market for an I-phone.
I can't see any reason not to get android. Thousands of apps, established system and Jellybean on a decent phone is a joy (better than iOs imo). However, I've never tried a windows phone
Thanks TAFKASTR
I'm just wondering whether the WP8 might be worth a punt now as I'm not used to android, and so have no expectations/requirements.
Will WP8 become more established as W8 becomes more popular. The lack of apps at the moment doesn't really bother me as I will be discovering what is available so wont be missing anything, but will the platform catch up to where android is or die a death and be obsolete in a few years?

this.
As an operating system win 8 on mobile is as good as any of the others and if anything its actually easier to use and navigate but as anything that's just a personal opinion.
As for people going on about apps etc, yes they don't have as many but if you look at the 700000 apps on android Itunes 699900 of them are either repeat copy apps or just pointless, so leaving about 100 useful ones that people actually use and play and i guarantee then 100 will all be pretty much available on win 8
If an app is popular on one platform you can guarantee that it will be available on all others withing weeks
Just my 10 pence worth
You may not think the lack of apps will bother you, but I have a good few on my phone - some for fun (angry birds etc) and some useful ones (nat west banking for example). No idea what is and isn't available on WP8, but you will find it frustrating trying to get something only to find its available for Android and iOs only. Just as in earlier days of android it was annoying seeing everything developed for the iPhone only.
Have the best of both worlds like me, get a powerful android phone and put a w8 skin over the top, free and takes 5 mins, then it acts very similar to w8 and has the benefits of android.

We went through a "Top 100 phone apps" list and discovered that none of them were available for Windows Phone, though this was from a few months ago.
Both are good but Android is much more varied (apps, customisation). Play with both in a shop to get a feel.
As with everything, pro's and cons with both.
WP is slick and very easy to use with great social network intergration. You need to get a Nokia really though to make the most of the platform as their exclusive apps (Sat Nav, music, photos et) make a big differance. The web browser is pretty decent too. The live tiles are a genuinely useful feature also IMO.
Android gives you much more flexibility with how your phone looks and behaves, you also get a much wider choice of handsets to suit every budget.
Its not just the range of apps that are better on android but the apps themselves are much more mature. The ebay app on WP is woeful for example in comparison to the android equivelent.
