A very serious article about another right wing group I'd not heard of but I'd love that guy as my local priest!
BBC News - Patriotic Alternative: The town fighting the far-right with Welsh cakes
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65057093
No I wouldn't like a welsh cake.
They're far too moreish for that. Buurrpp!
Yeah, I read that a minute ago.
One "party" trying to gain influence by sewing division and hate, the other doing the polar opposite but offering kindness.
One side not caring about the communities out wants to read sort, the other having no agenda other than to fight (very politely!) against that from happening.
A lovely story in my opinion.
It's a very positive story, and agree about the priest sounding like an absolute hero. It also just reminded me that there's Welsh cakes in the cupboard. Win!
I wasn't sure how to describe my reaction, but "very positive" is a great description. I know it focuses on one side of the local debate, but it's uplifting how they want to overcome hate with positivity.
I reckon the priest could handle himself if it all kicked off though!
They're welshcakes, not Welsh cakes.
Fair enough. Probably best tell all the places that sell them as Welsh cakes, like the lovely ladies in Cardiff Indoor Market.
Good story though 🙂
Lovely response.
I struggle not to believe that the way to deal with people in groups like Patriotic Alternative is to be more violent than them until they're cowed into fear. But that's what gets us into this kind of mess, obvs.
Don't feed the trolls, but allowances made for welshcakes/Welsh cakes.
Fr Counsell said. "So if you meet a far-right, neo-fascist bonehead who looks out of place here, the critical question you must ask that person is: 'Would you like a Welsh cake?'"
Quote of the year
oldnick - that was my thought when I read the article; definitely quote of the year.
