This summer we will be away for 3 weeks touring Europe in the camper van so the Passat will be at home guarding the fort !
Thinking I might disconnect the battery to stop battery drain and the alarm going off (not that it has) by accident.
Would you bother ?
Battery drain - 3 weeks??
I had a car sitting in the garden for 5 months and it started first time.
Nope
Nope.
just leave it ticking over, nobody nicks passats
Okay no battery drain then but alarm going off by accident....it happens when you least expect it and getting a call from irate neighbour is not something I want whilst on holiday 👿

Leave them with a key then
I don't like them ! and I have 2 sets of neighbours to potentially annoy ! and both work full time
Better get it up on bricks as well in case someone nicks the wheels 😉
**** me - have you nothing more important to worry about?
If you don't like the neighbours, then it's no drama If the alarm goes off then is it?
I bet you unplug everything at night too just like Grandma. 😆

Yes plenty but thats why I'm asking now ! being organised !

bugger off !

If they are at work how will they know if the alarm is going off?
Thats some belief you have in your car......
Must be a vw to be that confidence inspiring...

It might go off at night these things always happen at night, dark windy rainy nights !

You got it in one !
Kill your neighbours.
Would I? No.
Should you? Yes. It'll put your mind at rest and let you enjoy the holiday. just don't tell anyone as they might come along and nick it safe in the knowledge that the alarm ain't going to go off.
Kill your neighbours.
a bit extreme plus Id come back to a flat battery if it did go off !

eh ?
If the battery is uncharged for more than about two weeks, reverse electronolysis will occur in the ECU, particularly on VAG models, which will cause the stator valve in the throttle valve to display a false negative, cutting the fuel flow during start and, by implication, causing the lambda sensor to signal inaccurately due to the coanda effect.
Personally, I'd keep it connected.
Only if you are confident the radio will work when you return. Dont alarms stop going off after a certain kength of time anyway?
When the battery goes flat?
alarm going off by accident....it happens when you least expect it
It's faulty then, get it fixed and leave your battery alone.
In a quarter of a century of driving, the only times I've had car alarms go off by accident is if it was an aftermarket Moss special fitted by a gibbon (ie, me) or if I'd left the windows open without disabling the ultrasonics inside.
And frankly, if I was leaving my car unguarded and unmoved for three weeks, I'd want the bloody alarm to work!
Lock the car but don't set the alarm - then it can't go off.
(i.e. press button on B post to disable internal sensors)
Thank me later.
For 3 weeks no.
You may want to turn the alarm off - there'll be a button for it. However, mine's never gone flat in that time, not with a known good battery anyway.
I wouldn't, but then my car alarm has never accidentally gone off.
Has yours? If not, then don't bother.
If it has, then you could consider it. Or get a trickle charger and keep it plugged in while you're away.
Me - I wouldn't bother, but it's you asking so how about removing the fuse or relay to the alarm?
Sorted
FFS drac - you even work in the health service; those iron lungs have to be on all the time 🙄I bet you unplug everything at night too just like Grandma.
If you are worried go to Maplin and get a solar powered trickle charger and leave it in the window facing South. Cost about a tenner. Worked for me when I laid up my Mondeo for a couple of months.
bugger off !
😆

I'd drill a hole to let the water out - it could be full up by the time you come back. 😉

no water in mine...not now anyway ! and you can bugger off as well and btw you better get some rust treatment gonna need it soon with that Alfa !
& leave the handbrake off, but leave it in gear. You'll see why if you dont.
Whys that then essle ? Its only 3 weeks, not 3 months.
I leave my french car sitting for 6 weeks quite regularly.
The pads dont stick to the disks,
The alarm doesnt go off
And it starts first turn.....
Did leave a hyundai for 6 months once. I cam eback threw a new battery on and put it straight for an mot. It passed .
Oh and kryton i thought you didnt do funny.... That was a goodun 😉
I know a bloke (big John) that will sleep in your car for £75 while you are away.
It may smell a bit,but he will make sure it starts when you get back.
Mail him on westealanycar@pas****ford.sco.ochaye
3 times I've left a Passat at Manchester airport (in January/Feb) & 3 times I've come back to high spots on the rear discs, causing a judder on braking. The discs don't get any corrosion where the pads have been in contact. Could be just Manchester/my Passat/humidity/my bad luck, or a combination!
" will work when you return. Dont alarms stop going off after a certain kength of time anyway?"
yes, about two and a half weeks
Leave a Smart charger connected. No worries on either front.

yes, about two and a half weeks
He should set it off before he leaves then. All will be quiet when he gets home.

If that happened it would be a simple matter of extracting the iconometric elements, and triaxilating a recursion matrix. You might need a grown up to help you.
