I bought a DVD of the original series for my kids 10 years or so again. I watched it with them but thought it was some kind of acid infused crazy shit. I didn't bat an eyelid when I watched it as a kid.
Best watched with a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake

Crook has said none next year as he's in the West End, and doesn't have firm plans for any after that as he thinks the 'kids' might look too old by that point. I reckon it's ripe for a proper melachnolic one where the kids grow out of being Worzel's mates and he tries to find something to fill that hole. Or just bring in new foster kids to the farm...
Not sure that Crook is a genius, but as a writer and director he does a very English mix of surreal whimsy, irreverence, mysticism, social conscience and rudeness better than just about anyone. I'll say it quietly round these parts, but in some ways I reckon his take on Worzel Gummidge is better TV than Detectorists.
Worzel Bummidge! gets the biggest laugh out of our 5yr old.
