In anticipation of the winter mud Mrs RR has suggested some portable dog wash, no doubt hand cranked and a bit rubbish but will do the job of semi cleaning a muddy hound.

My immediate idea was that this is a good way of enabling the purchase of a portable power washer and getting something which will clean bikes before putting in/on the car too.

I've done a bit of google-fu and it looks like this Worx is 2 speed so can dribble for dog and spray for bike.

Am I missing anything and will likely blast our furry friend 20 yards across the car park, or is this a sound idea that someone else has done already?

Any other recommendations other than the Worx (model picked as it has 2 speeds)?

There's one keeps appearing on Facebook ads - despite me not having a dog - and if I can remember the name I'll get back to you

Something like "Mud Daddy" or equally shit, I think

Yeah, that's what MrsRR has seen, like a hand pump, hose and brush attached to a petrol can.  Hence looking for something more 'ahem' suitable.

We’ve got a mud daddy, we didn’t pay full price. It works well but leaks horribly from the hand piece as does our friend’s, the hose comes out the bottom so wouldn’t be surprised if this leaks as well, it lives outside! I would avoid

I've a Worx Hydroshot and although I don't use it on my dogs I think it'd be fine. Worx recommend doing just that with it.

It's nowhere near as powerful as a proper pressure washer but it has settings from a trickle to being strong enough to shift mud from tyres or moss/algea from stone, all be it very slowly.

Yeah, on the lower power setting it's fine on my skin (blasting off bike riding mud) so it'd be fine for a dog.

We also use it for washing away the remains of dog turds left by dickheads on the pavement outside our house.

I have a ghetto portable washer for the bike - 25l water can and a £20-£25 pump off ebay. Strong enough to knock the mud off before a bike goes in/on the car, and it's controllable, so would be fine for the dog. Runs of the car 12v socket.

Yes it works fine on a dog, my dad tried it on his dog and she was fine with it on low pressure.

I have one of these for bikes and it's great IMO https://www.jetwet.co.uk/dogs/

Theres various portable shower kits available, a lot less powerful than the jetwash options. Have a look at Collapz on amazon. Its been posted before that some dogs may not like the noise of the jetwash

Mud daddy is shit. Wife is a dog walker and we have bought two of the things, both have burst and leaked like sieves Over the back of the van. Mud daddy we’re not interested in any warranty discussions at all
The Kurgo-go shower bag from mountain dog is a bit less refined(in theory) but works perfectly well, so says her indoors.

Thanks all, keep it coming, current thinking:

Mud Daddy is off the list as feedback here confirms my suspicions.

Shower bags won't get my bike clean so off the list for the moment, but look cheap enough if a powered alternative scares the dog (she's not scared of the hand held vacuum)

Jetwet is sold out at the moment, but looks interesting at half the price of the Worx, if a bit less versatile for other jobs.

Worx is on the pricewatch list now as looks like I may get lucky if I hold out.

My hydroshot was one of the "used" Amazon ones, I think it was probably an unwanted item as it was brand new and significantly cheaper than RRP.

Any more opinions on the JetWet? I've been eyeing up a Worx for the same reason: winter+mud+dog+bike (top tip: a cockerpoo is a bad choice of trail dog) but we already have a proper pressure washer so it will only be used for dog and bikes.

I use my hydroshot on my puppy, lowest power option and the shower head setting. Mainly to get him used to the noise. Will be getting used on him if we drive somewhere and do a muddy walk

Never used the Worx on Fin, she loves the hosepipe but more often than not when she gets back from a walk she just climbs in the sink and waits to be washed.

Based on today’s showing Margo is more than happy with a hose down, this is purely for  cleaning before getting into the car (bike or dog).

@dc1988 I’d seen those used ones on amazon,  good condition saves about £25.  Average £50, I suspect the former is just an unwanted return.  What did you go for? Also did it come with a guarantee as I’m thinking the extra £25 is worth the peace of mind?

Watch out for those unused returns, I bought one last winter and it didn't come with a battery... considering I only saved £25 and a new battery is more than that, I just sent it back but never got around to buying a new one.

If you're after a Worx Hydroshot it's worth checking out eBay for the positecworx shop as they are Worx authorized dealers in the UK and often have really good discounts on them and all the other Worx kit, e.g. batteries etc.

I got This setup from them earlier this year for 80 quid posted and it works great for bikes & pooches alike. Really convenient for traveling and far better than my old DirtWorx jetwasher.

Bought one for my stepfather for Christmas last year precisely for dog washing. It's a great tool for the job. And plenty of others too. He takes hot water with him in a tank, it's cooled by the end, and dog and wellies cleaned and in the car. Job jobbed.

@razorrazoo I assume mine was good condition, the box was brand new. It was missing the folding bucket which might be why it was returned but I paid £75 so was still worth keeping.

I think Amazon say returned items have a shorter warranty but you can register your product on the Worx website where you can upload an invoice (I found a copy of my Amazon one with no mention of it being a returned item on it). I've not had any issues so I have no idea what might happen if it did go wrong.

I also found that my drill batteries (two year old Aldi one) fit the Worx so I have two spares just in case. On a single charge it will last long enough for quite a few bikes or dogs but thoroughly cleaning my estate car is a little over one battery.
