Described in the Guinness Book of World Record's as the oldest light bulb in the world, this bulb just celebrated its 110th birthday on June 18,2011. The Livermore, Ca. Station 6 firehouse is home to this record
setting light bulb.
The 60 watt light bulb that just won't quit was installed in 1901 and has burned continuously, except for a few blackouts and some outlet moves, at it's home home in the Livermore Ca., fire station. It's used as a nightlight over the firetrucks and is never turned off.
I went to Thomas Edison's house in Florida. Some of the original lightbulbs he made in the 1880s were still glowing strong... Well, about 15 watts. Surely they will be older...
I don't care that you don't give a damn
Didn't they roll the filaments by hand early on? Or, the child labour did anyway...
Well, I for one, feel distinctly enlightened after reading that...
its only run at a couple of watts, and being hand made, i reckon it was a "lucky" one where ALL the oxygen inside was removed (by luck more than anything) so it SHOULD burn forever if they dont bump it
Also will help that it isnt turned on and off, as that is what burns out bulbs too. Physics isnt it!
dont get me wrong, still pretty cool though 🙂 (if your into that kind of thing)
Very apt place for it to be too as firemen never go out either. 😆
Technology to manufacture light bulbs that dont fail has been around for many years it just doesnt make commercial sense.
The sort of news that can fill a minute (say it quickly for awful punnage....)
