Ok not the world but England. Is this sustainable? Is it fair? Think how much more sociable, attractive and confident we would be as a country if the 4% shared some of their booze with the country’s sober.
He said: "My patients with alcohol-related cirrhosis, their average consumption is 120 units a week. That's the median, the mean is higher - it's 150.
They won't be having a dry January I imagine.
"A typical Frosty Jack's drinker...
What on Earth is Frosty Jack's?
White lightening type stuff. High strength, low price cider, sold in 3 litre bottles
150 units a week? How? Just how? I don't think I could physically drink that much of anything, let alone booze.
Leave us (descendants) of Lushes out of this! Lush is a perfectly respectable surname.

I quite easily could, although I wouldn't, as I'd feel quite bad in the short term. And I don't want to wreck my liver in the medium to long term.
Well if a 3 litre bottle is 22.5 units, 6 bottles would do it. That's one a day and a day off to give your liver a rest.
I know someone who, when asked by the GP how much he drank, did the usual and gave her a much lower figure:
"Oh, only about 40 pints a week".
A few years ago, I completed a drinking questionnaire from my GP and scored highly enough to be sent a follow-up questionnaire 😳
The questionnaire scored having a glass of red wine every evening the same as drinking before going to work once or more a week!

Chap that was on the same ward as me before Xmas, ‘I’ve had a 2.5 litre bottle of cider every day for the last 50 years’. Wasn’t in for liver issues, somewhat amazingly.
Me? I’ve had a glass of whisky (and water) since October (New Years eve) and have been ‘drunk’ once in the last 18 months (Xmas party last year, had a bottle of wine)
My liver is knackered, apparently....

My next door neighbour when asked the same question umnd and ahhd a bit so the Dr suggested "maybe 20 units ?" My neighbour agreed not realising the Dr ment per week not per day !!
150 units per week is no problem for some drinkers. And they fully function and don't consider themselves alcholics 😯
One of my good friends works with proper, full time alcoholics. He was saying 6-9 litres of cheap cider per day was the norm before hitting up a litre or two of vodka.
There are some unfortunate souls who pack away mind boggling volumes of cheap drink.
I knew someone who drank a bottle of vodka and 4 cans of lager every single day as a minimum. Held down a full time job as well and managed to get to retirement before dying.
But it's worth noting that in the UK twice as much alchol is sold than we admit to drinking. So I take any published survey about our drinking habits with a pinch of salt !!
I was told recently by my doctor that tests showed my liver was in excellent shape.
I said "I think that shows the importance of exercising it regularly."
There I was thinking a can or 2 a night with a non-alcoholic beer as well was a problem!
