I have a bunch of very old radiators which don't do a great job any more.  They are pretty long approx 400 x 2500 in the bay.

This no longer seems to be a standard size, and I'm hoping modern radiators will have better output so I can fit smaller.

Is there a way of working out what the output should be for a given room volume so I can then get the closest size?

I'm looking at column style radiators (acova on screwfix if you have used them decent reviews and likely to be in production as I'm doing a room at a time)

Plenty of good online calculators around - you put in the size of the room, number of outside walls etc, and it will give you a BTU rating for the radiator you need.

Just google it, theres quite a few tools you can use online. Ive used mr central heating i think for an idea of btu required. You want to work on btu not physical size.

Local branch of city plumbing supplied all mine and they worked it all out for me, try your local plumbers merchants. Worked out the btu required and i fitted the nice stelrad rads, they have a pdf that gives all the outputs and it was just a case of me working out the best sizes for each room to give the required output and what thicknesses i could fit.

Thanks didn't know about btu stuff.  Looks like a conversion is 3.14 btu to watt.

i got a mate who's a plumber to work mine out but online calculators will do the same. i was quite surprised how much smaller the new ones are so provided your old ones are the right size for the room your new ones should be smaller.
