Like many others, wfh is going to be my only option for the medium term....bit of a pita being a musician for a living like!

Luckily my online guitar tuition has had a really good uptake, so I'm in need of a decent chair to save my back (hereditary intermittent bad back) Ideally something without arms so that I can sit with a guitar, nothing too expensive ideally but I'm not really too sure how much these things cost. Any suggestions?

I prefer to play walking around, better for the legs, back and anything beyond the 12th fret. You can do the ZZ dance steps too, or a duck walk or wander around the garden.

You need a selfie stick.

I’ve had very expensive, specialist, back-pain reducing, office chairs. But personally, I have found that decent posture is much more effective than spending tons on fancy chairs. Obviously a decent chair will help - lumbar support etc. I’m also a guitarist, but I much prefer to play standing. When I do sit, I tend to rest against a higher stool, rather than sit on a low chair.

For classical guitar I use and adjustable height piano stool.
I contacted an Alexander teacher who did a 40 min online consultation. I ended up ditching my foot stool and Gitano support and buying an Ergoplay support. Cost £20 for the consultation and well worth it to me.

For non classical adjustable height stools are available with guitar logo of your choice and if you can identify a specific stool height there is a cheap stool from Ikea available for £10ish.

Nothing with arms! My company supplied me with a chair for wfh and its rubbish for practicing the bass cos the stupid arms get in the way. 🙁

HÄG Capisco.

Available at different specs and prices from Back In Action (www.backinaction.co.uk)

Not cheap, but I recommend it.

I went through all the usual (expensive) suspects for office chairs when I injured my back - Aeron, Humanscale, etc - and this is the only one that I can now sit on all day without triggering pain.

It's a different sort of sitting, but very good for posture.
