Hi,
I'm going to be working from France for 1 week and am concerned that I won't have Wifi.
Is there some kind of mobile SIM/device that I can take as a backup. I will need to be able to use Teams.
Mick
Get an eSim
You download it (assuming you have a compatible phone) and then use the local network rather than roaming.
I assumed that you've checked whether you can use your existing phone package for roaming (it may be free, or something like a tenner for the week), and set it up as a wifi hotspot?
And your work may block non-UK connections (mine does)
Just back from two weeks away in the USA using a BNE eSim.
It's data only but the app includes a voip dialler.
Don't assume anything. I'm lying in bed with COVID 🙂 I will check that now.
I'm with 02 and it looks like I can get a bolt-on but the esim looks to be cheaper.
I thought O2 offer free roaming, seem to recall reading it somewhere.
Ahh, yes. It says "use your data at no extra cost over 45 countries". I guess that will be OK then.
use your data at no extra cost over 45 countries
check limits though, many providers will say "oh you can only use XXX gb even though you have unlimited at home"
O2 is roam free but there's still a limit.
O2 limit is 25Gb. We are currently using an “Airbox” we bought from Orange with top ups at €40 for 35 Gb. eSIM is probably cheaper (recent thread on this subject) but the Orange box is what we have.
yeah, im on ee and was told no roaming. A few months later I checked it out to confirm when I went to france, roaming now included.
You could try something like this if you do need a lot of data
O2 is roam free but there’s still a limit.
It's also speed-capped which will break video-calling etc in Teams. Everyone at work is using Flexiroam, but you could buy a PAYG 3 SIM card and top it up with £10 for fast data abroad.
