You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My 40 year old electric fret saw has finally died and I am meant to be making a load of stuff for a village fete on August 6th which means I need to make it this weekend. This means ideally available from Screwfix/Toolstation/MachineMart/Axminster
I am mostly cutting intricate shapes out of wood lest that 4cm thick and have a band saw for the heavy duties. Why are they now called scroll saws when mine has fret sawt written on it?
Any recommendations for things to look for or things to avoid?
Just looked at the Axminster prices ?!?!?
Under £200 and preferable under £150
Just double check the local facebook marketplace for a 2nd hand Hegner first.
They are all hateful things, but I think that's more to do with my dislike of that sort of work.
I've not done much (any) research but if variable speed control is a thing on only some, I think it's work paying for.
Agreed. A quick search seems to show variable speed and throat depth are the main things after choosing the paint colour, I mean brand of Chinese clone, at least at my price point.
Marketplace and ebay will now get searched
Yeah, Hegner are the ones to have.
A student once bought a Lidl one.
It was terrible. Well, the method for holding the blades was. Apart from that, you could get some use out of it.
Ask on the other site, theres far more experience of scroll saws and you'll probably get a good recommendation or even someone with one to sell.
What little i know, Hegner is touted about as being good kit.
I ended up with a 2nd hand Jet JSS 16 from FB Marketplace for £50 including about 30 assorted blades and pretty much as new.
Good work.
