So, say just for instance, that [i]someone[/i] had blithely ignored well-meaning advice about the need to revarnish his wooden window frames and was now looking at his rather grey weathered rustic-effect frames and regretting that a little.

What would be the best course of action?
Just sand them back a little and whack on some to Ronseal Yacht Varnish?
Or do they need treated or maybe stained a bit first?
Look rotten at the bottom tbh, I'd check they are sound before doing anything else. If they are your plan makes sense, get any loose / flaky varnish off and apply new. Varnish with stain may an option.
Not yacht varnish - too thick and shiny.
Sand and then oil x lots. Much simpler, and would then take another coat every so often in double quick time.
Don't think it is actually rotten but pretty dry and cracked in places. Think they are sound enough
What oil would you use? Tung?
If they are all like that, sand them down and paint them white, to match your neighbors 😉
Osmo Oil. Much simpler than tung oil.
They do stained versions too.just make sure it's the exterior stuff.

I use the interior oil on the kitchen worktops and it does a great job. I'll take a look for that. Cheers.
