You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My turbo trainer and Concept2 have been promoted from the garage to the spare bedroom, which is carpeted (over a chipboard floor, I assume). I'm going to stick a hard floor in but seeking advice.
Basically, are there any good reasons to go for a laminate floor over an engineered wood version other than cost? Not fussed over engineered vs solid wood, but the only benefit of laminate seems to be the price. Both bits of equipment will be on mats, and one will not be walking around in cleats (which are plastic anyway).
The options available on the internet are enormous. Will be fitting it myself.
Don't get cheap laminate it's shit.
IMO it makes sense to pay for a professionally fitted engineered floor, if you intend to be staying in the house for the long term, way cleaner than carpet and lasts for years. (Also I am handless when it comes to stuff like this and wouldn't dream of doing it myself!)
Don't be tight on the underlay, get some decent stuff.
Laminate generally scratches less easily if things get dragged across it.
If you do scratch laminate it's difficult to repair.
Solid wood can be sanded and revarnished.
Engineered wood if the scratch or dropped item would have damaged laminate to the point of needing surface repair then it may be big enough to go through the top layer of veneer.
This was demonstrated to us once in homebase by the salesman dragging a key across. The laminate showed nothing, the engineered wood a big scratch.
Neither is perfect.
thought about lvt? you can get click versions now too which would probably be OK in a spare room. I'd want stick down if there was a lot of traffic or in lots of sun
I use a yoga matt under my turbo. catches sweat and deadens the sound a bit
