Am looking to upgrade our staircase with wooden/laminate flooring. As an amateur woodworker, I'd quite like to have a go myself but struggling to work out what I need.

Cost wise, I'd like to go laminate but struggling to find the right parts (if they exist). The issue is I'm in a house with three floors and the staircase to each floor has two turns (so four total). I'd then like to continue it onto the two landings. I can find kits for straight stairs but how do you do the corners? Would also prefer to not have risers, just treads, but hard to find on their own.

Does anyone who knows about these things have any thoughts? Am I looking in the wrong place or is this something that doesn't exist? Can find some solid wood options but very expensive.

Having laminate on a stair gives me the willies, it's really quite slippery and noisy.

Oh,  really not a great idea for laminate on stairs.  As said, super slippy and noisy.   Not recommended.

Thanks all. Duly noted. Is it that much more slippy than wooden flooring? You've convinced me to knock this one on the head though!

I threw some cheap laminate down in our dining room. Did have a bit of a grain finish to it, but don't remember it being particularly slippery. Was also rated for use in kitchens so may have been grippier than your normal laminate. Moved now though so can't test/confirm.

That being said you'd have fun and games getting it to work on stairs as ours was designed to float and just clicked together. You'd have to use hidden nails on the joints of the laminate if laying on stairs to stop it moving. Plus you'd have an exposed edge at the front of the tread.

Have seen some people pop wood/laminate/LVT on the riser and carpet on the tread. Looks a bit odd to me, but each to their own.

Take a look at Coretec. They make stair grade laminate.

https://coretecfloors.com/en-gb/products?group=coretec+stairs

They also produce stair tread sections with integrated nosing. They look really nice in the flesh. The led lighting options look great too

* full disclosure. Coretec is one of the brands owned by the company I work for.
