We've been looking at 5ft wooden garden benches in local garden centres and they all seem to be a bit rubbish and flimsy
Can anyone recommend a good quality bench that isn't made from cheese that will withstand the lovely weather we get at 200m in the Pennines?

What do you want to spend? All sorts of options out there in hardwood, but more pricey than treated pine :-

or for the Rolls Royce option (lovely stuff, but spendy!)

If you can get to Liverpool, Church street the street traders there have a great selection of them, next to the continental market.

We used to make benches and seats and these look good value for the money, they also do delivery.

Thanks

I'm not sure how much to spend, suppose £200-400 range would be okay.

We tried to get the cheapest bench we could get that looked solid.
Ended up spending £145 on a Alexander Rose broadfield bench 5ft in Acacia wood.
They do other timbers (karri being the cheapest).

Had it about 16 months sat out all year and it still looks great (bit of teak oil this spring).

Of course, there are lots better, but I'm happy that this was the cheapest possible decent quality one. Quite a few of my local garden centres had them to try out for comfort. This one is great as long as you slot your spine between the slats).

Thought about making your own? I got the wood for this free as it was leftover from pergola my parents were putting up. To buy the amount of wood used from a builders merchant would have been no more than 15 quid.

Told ya they were plenty spendy! Proper old school craftsmanship, really nice pieces, mental money.
