We have a wood burner in our lounge on which I recently replaced the door seals.
No problem - they now seal lovely.
However this has now highlighted a small air leak on the top of the stove.
There is a hatch/door on the top of the stove that opens and there is an annoying whistle where its obviously drawing air in. I bought some 5mm rope to try to cure it but it didn't work and obviously let more air in as it became a real pain to regulate the air flow so i removed it again.
I'm thinking of trying a thin bead of high temp sealant but before i do does anybody have any better ideas or any recommendations for decent sealant?
Also whats that hatch on the top called?
Thanks
There's a Dow corning sealant that's good for up to 1500F, used to use it when I worked on aircraft engines, i cant recall the numbrr though.
It came in a light blue/green box, and the sealant itself is terracotta in colour, it's excellent.
Edit, just found it, Dow Corning 736.
Just pop a dab of weld on it and linish back?
Is it a cover for an alternative flue position, top as opposed to back? What model stove is it? If you don't use it with seal it with fire cement or as above.
Thanks for the replies - will look at the dow corning sealant - have also seen an envirograf stoveseal sealant that looks like it would do the job.
The cover is actually hinged so not another flue outlet - which is also on the top
