I'm going to fit a stove into my new studio/shed. I have two options for the flue. Either cutting a hole through the wooden gable which will need two bends, or straight up through the roof which will need some sort of custom made aperture and collar.
The through the roof option feels like less of a fire risk, is there anywhere I can buy a type of adaptor to fit the flue through it. The stove pipe is 5 inches in diameter.
EDIT just found this. http://www.windysmithy.co.uk/flue-flashings
Any views on it?
Sorry for the slight hijack. on the other thread you said you didn't set the uprights in concrete, have you just set them into the ground instead?
Those silicon ones? We had one on our roof - no idea what they are called.
Also keeping the flue inside at least gives you the heat off that too.
McM there is a silicon adapter you can get which would do all you need. Frankly as you're going through a tin roof I think you'd just need to fill the gap to stop water coming in. But the silicon jobby will sort you out nicely.
Insulate it first?
moonter, we sell a lead roof kit,
like the one top left.....might do to bodge?
Here you go

Wors, the posts are just set into the ground, it's really hard rocky stuff with no chance of subsidence. Concrete reacts with the tannin in the wood and rots the posts. When I have the gutters and drains up they should be standing in permanently dry conditions.
That silicon thing looks like it will do the job. The will be at least 2.5m metros between the stove and the flashing, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Too Tall, I'm going to insulate the floors and walls, and possibly half the roof, the other side has two full length skylights.
Excellent, no turning back now, I just ordered one of these.
