Early contender for 2020's Darwin Award winner?

What a way to go!

Hardly a Darwin Award contender – it was a sad accident but, hey, why not laugh at her misfortune – I am sure her family won't mind.

🙁

2020’s Darwin Award winner

probably not, being 60 she would have had ample opportunity to pass on her genes and unlikely to happen in the future assuming she hadn't died.

Probably not in a running, but definitely note worthy. If you could just not tell her family that would be great.

Surely, if it's ok to laugh at the Crocodile Hunter getting killed by a stingray, this should be fair game too.

Whilst I'm not going to say that's OK (or not) either, it's a 60 year old woman who had a seizure whilst eating. Ok that eating was in a competition but its a bit like laughing at Fabrice Muamba for having a heart attack whilst he happened to be playing football.

I laughed. It is a bizarre way to die. But yeah, good opportunity for some fun killing virtue signalling.

If my mum killed herself doing something that stupid she'd want us to laugh at her.

Was he also trying to do something unhealthy and stupid when he had his heart attack?

Playing football nearly turned out to be both for him but, my point is, the report makes no suggestion her death is linked to the competition by anything other than coincidence, she could just as easily have been eating a sandwich at home. By all means find it funny, but it's not like "wee for a wii" which is/was funny.

Bravo perchy

It's nothing like that. She died doing something stupid (eating competition). Playing football, whilst not everyone's preferred pass time or entertainment, is a sport with real health benefits to the participants.

She died whilst doing something stupid, rather than died because of doing something stupid, as far as I can tell? Or am I misreading it, it's not wholly clear.

Killing oneself in the name of idiocy may be deserving of mockery. "Woman has seizure and dies," I'm not really seeing the mirth in that TBH.

🤣🤣

Unless there's an implication of:
Dead black man = funny.

Absolutely no need to point out he's a man...

It’s hard to imagine how repeatedly stuffing her face with cake was not in some way at least partially responsible for the seizure.

Stuffing your face with Lamingtons is a perfectly normal thing to do. Was doing just that last night for Australia Day, and cleaned up the left over spare box tonight.

As for dying from it, that was a bit premature. One should wait for the Pavlova and a tumbler of Bundy Rum.
