So heading up to wolftrax on Friday til Sunday evening, accommodation is booked out, so where do you think for a spot of wild camping, do you think you'd get away with camping in the trees at the loch laggan beach(I've been before fantastic spot, never camped though)? been looking at maps, loads of places i guess the beach being the pick imo as a morning swim would be a great way to wake up before the trails. So anyhow where would you camp round about there?

Also recommendations for natuaral loops around there? as we'll have time to do more than just the wolftrax..

Shouldn't be a problem finding somewhere around the Loch Laggan area to camp. You must be well 'ard if you're thinking of an early morning swim with current water temperatures.

For natural loops, the obvious is Carn Ban Mor - lots of mentions on here - absolutely classic Scottish loop. Takes 3-4 hours. There's more to cycle around the Aviemore area than you can shake a track pump at so head to Bothy Bikes - great place to get good route advice and to spend to much money on bits you don't really need

wild camping no issue so long as you act sensibly

Up by lochan na hearba just south of loch laggan is a beautiful spot. Think about where you are going to get your water from and where to "go"

Myself I always like to get away from the road if possible

Cool, will look that up ta.

Regarding water temperatures, new one on me, not been swimming outdoors since i was a wee guy took down to ayr beach by my mum! So no idea, i was basing my plan to go for a swim in the belief that 'just chucking myself in and i'll get used to the temperature' train of though should see me right, is it likely to be that baltic? Would an afternoon/after ride swim be better then do you think? Quite fancy it providing i don't die of cold shock that is and sink to the bottom! 😀

yes it will be baltic. It was ice only a few weeks ago. It won't be warm for a while yet if ever.

TJ aye i'm well versed in the LRA, had just read old articles about issues with the landowner up there, but it was Pre LRA so not expecting any, just thought i'd ask the question.

I'm also a great believer in leave no trace! 🙂

If the Loony Dookers can splash around in the Forth on New Years Day I'm sure you'll be fine in the water up there

So carn ban mor? Is it better to what looks like a forest road loop(well double dotted lines to single dotted lines) that takes you in from the back of it to the descent? Or just head straight up and down the single dotted line?

Yup, cycle along the river to pick up the LRT. Note, it's the second one opposite where the bridge used to be, not the first one that heads back on itself into the woods. If you are ridiculously fit you could ride it all the way to the top - it's a very good track. Just beefore the descent its worth turning right and heading up to the top of CBM, or even futher along the ridge on an obvious path - just because you can

cheers, If we get over to it(I've another 4 people to convince about it, but i'm taking maps anyway), i've a feeling i'll be pushing up, then again, mibbe no i am a bit better fitness wise this year, we'll see! I've watched the video's the descent looks amazing! And aye Sgorr Gaoithe will need to be bagged if I manage it, I saw that carn ban mor isn't actually a munro! 🙂

btw does anyone know how to pronounce gaoithe? geeth? getting that from laoise which is prounounced leesh. but that's irish as opposed to scots gaelic.
