Even more so when I found out it's based on a real guy!
😀
I'm going to do the STW thing and say I thought it was a bit shite...but having zero empathy for the characters in the film possibly helped me to my final thoughts on it.
I didn't like it either. Holywood films have lost me. But each to their own.
Don't worry DD, there'll be an Alan Rusbridger biopic sometime soon for you 😉
Crap.
Half assed Goodfellas remake
Margot Robbie 😛
Good film though, I bet they had a great time making it!
Good film, now read the book
Bit long, he's a total ****, but pretty funny. I was disappointed not to see more of Matthew McConaughey.
Even more so when I found out it's based on a real guy!
The guy that introduces Leo to the sales conference in nz at the end. That's him.
It's a great film and follows a theme that runs through all Scorsese's films - the destructive anti-hero.
However it really does make me chuckle how this character has been awarded so much hatred - disproportionately to the like of the violence of other Characters such as Jake LaMotta and Henry Hill.
I can't remember Jordan Belfort being as low as either as these!
It's interesting that violence in context is seen as more palatable than the doings of financial excess. (And I strongly sit in the disgruntled camp.)
It's nothing new that Scorsese generally centres films around characters you shouldn't really root for. And in Belfort's case it's a smart enough film to let you be drawn into the excess, enjoy and laugh at it - but take a dim view.
That's what makes Scorsese such a great film-maker.
Great film, as often the case with Scorsesse films it has some great characters. I thought it really show how greed and corruption in the goal of cash can effect people.
Not seeing the Goodfella reference at all.
Loved it. On my top 5 list probably.
Half assed Goodfellas remake
Both based on true stories, so clearly not a remake at all.
Greed and self destruction are common themes in the world, films made about people that live like that may have common elements.
The guy that introduces Leo to the sales conference in nz at the end. That's him.
I liked that a lot. Very good film.
It's going to be interesting to see The Big Short. The book is well written and the film has been done as a comedy which is quite interesting.
Trailers for the big short look dreadful.
Both based on true stories, so clearly not a remake at all.
Of course! There are no similarities between them. And I was being literal.
Still on the planner still not watched it....
Of course! There are no similarities between them.
You must have missed the rest of my post then obviously.
L
And I was being literal
Me too.
The Big Short is an enjoyable film but it's nowhere near as good as Wolf of Wall Street.
@wallop Michael Lewis didnt really have the same base material though. I know someone who made a lot of money out of being short throigh the crises, hes the most dedicated, middle of the road, loyal and respectable family guy you could hope to meet. Hard to sex that up too much
Can't understand why they downplayed/sanitised behaviour in the dealing room. Otherwise, a fun movie 😀
Jambalaya - agreed, which is why they aren't really comparable. The only thing they have in common is the stock market.
I am in that film 😀
