You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Does anyone on here do okay from playing the markets at all? It is something that I have never done but, I assume, the stock market or other forms of investment is more accessible now through online trading. As much as I love Wolf of Wall Street I don't expect to live the lifestyle from playing around with small investments, but certainly interested to dabble.
So, who does what here? Anyone had any success or got any suggestions for starting out?
Depends how much interaction you plan to do. Personally I'm not interested enough to be buying and selling all the time so I've stuck my money into a couple of funds. The best year of the best fund was a 28% return. Average overall has been about half that, not too bad for very little effort. I doubt I would've done any better choosing my own shares. Obviously the markets have been pretty good recently so this strategy may not work longer term but I'm sticking with it for now.
Bloke I’m working with at the moment bought £1000 worth of Apple shares back in 2003. He really only needs to work part-time for spending money now. I wish I’d paid more attention to such things back then... 😕
I looked into Forex trading briefly, buying and selling currency basically.
Some of the apps are quite impressive, you can buy and sell in real time even by the hour or minute. and run all sorts of analytics on the trends but it's pretty volitile, and you won't really make much money unless you gamble a lot of money you don't mind losing.
It's interesting stuff but Forex trading is pretty brutal, it's literally like playing poker, despite any mathematical analysis you use.

It’s easy to make money with hindsight. Most people would probably have said Dell was a better bet back then. Between then and then delisting you’d have lost 2/3rds of the share price!
