In the process of cutting back an out of control buddleia in my garden I noticed a section of wall is wobbly, for clarity, I can push it backwards and forwards, no idea how much, I didn't push too hard in case it fell down!

On the other side of the wall is my next door neighbour's drive, so if does collapse it could hit their car, but it also makes it difficult to shore up.

I have two problems;

1. What do in the short and long term

2. I don't know who is actually responsible for the wall. It's about 6' long with 80% bordering my garden and 20% bordering my neighbours. The driveway belongs to the same neighbour, running across the back of both our gardens. I've lived in the house for 20 years and have no idea where my copy of the deeds are or if I even had any. Land registry?

Speak to the neighbour and see if they know who’s wall it is ?

Get it knocked down now, waiting until you decide who is responsible for the costs of replacing it risks damaging his car and you being responsible.

If it is a boundary wall for both of your gardens can you get them to agree to pay half of the cost to rebuild? Also, a 6 foot long section of wall won't cost too much to rebuild, or take very long. Does the whole wall move? Or just the top section where bricks are loose?

Push the wall down, then release their handbrake and move the car up to the wall, claiming that it must have rolled back.

They'll probably pay for it then.

The drive runs parallel to the wall, so that won't work.

The boundary is complicated to describe.

The neighbour on my right owns the garden to the right and the driveway that runs across the back of both gardens.

The wall separates the gardens from the driveway and is alternating brickwork and fence. Most of the dodgy brick section is by my garden, but some is by theirs.

As an additional complication, I think they are renting.
