A) With nothing
B) With the plane
C) With something else - please suggest

With nothing. Looks great without.
Without, if anything the plane ruins it for me
Without, defs.
Witch on a broomstick.
Elliot on a bike with ET in a basket.
Without anything, great on it's own
Biased here as I love them but I'd like to see a dragonfly instead of the plane. It fits the setting perfectly for me.
Needs more happy little trees
mOAR CHEMTRAILZ
The aircraft is a terrible idea, but the way you've framed the space with trees, it needs something. A distant flock of geese?
Needs more happy little trees
nice one. There's nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.
UFO "I really want to believe." 😉
Helicopter plus napalm.
Moar Crankwork whip off comp.
( Nothing is the proper answer )
Of the suggestios so far:
UFO
Biker doing a whip.
Or maybe an asteroid crashing down to extinguish all human life?
More seriously, nothing or birds.
I like it.

Okay, the plane idea is ditched.
I do plan to add one more big tree to the row of three already there but need to let those dry first. That should fill most of the gap on the right between the crowns of the big trees and the tops of the happy little trees.
The picture was planned to have the crescent moon about where the airplane is as that it what was there when I looked at the sunset but when I painted one there it looked stupid with the sunset. Looked fine in when I was staring at it but just looks fake in a painting. Nature is a bugger for doing stuff that looks fake.
I guess I could do some birds or similar as it really needs a focus and preferably something moving the eye from the left edge into the centre so perhaps flying towards instead of away.
Helicopters with napalm, ET and witches on broomsticks are all candidates for the second bigger one I have decided to do. UFO could go on the planets picture resting on the floor perhaps

Elliot on a bike with ET in a basket.
If there’s going to be a bike & basket involved, there’s only one image that suits the bill.
What about a dray of squirrels in the trees?
Got it! What about this?

Both work but without looks better to me.
Is dissapoints - was expecting a treadmill.

A skein of geese is what you need.
Biased here as I love them but I’d like to see a dragonfly instead of the plane. It fits the setting perfectly for me.
Was going to say a bird or something.. Maybe not quite as centered in the open space though as it would make the composition too formulaic.
With or without a grouse*
* you need to be a fan of Wallander in written form for context.
Otherwise:-

I think I will increase the trees on the left a little and have the birds flying towards the viewer from behind the trees at about 2/3rd height on the canvas. The centre of the canvas would be just the sunset.
Eyes follow the birds into the centre of frame and then the trees on right stop you from moving on.
Replace the plane with the bat-signal
Hot air balloon
one of these perhaps?
One of those 3-legged Martian walkers from from War Of The Worlds
To me, it looks as if the horizon draws your eye to the centre of the canvas, about a 1/3rd of tbe way up the canvas from the bottom edge. I would consider putting another large tree in the foreground, left hand side, then taper back in height towards the horizon. This would give you a sort of basket of tree branches which would then encapsulate tge area where my eye is drawn to, namely centre canvas, 1/3rd of the way up from bottom edge.
Then, stick the very last rays of the setting sun radiating out from t his point, maybe a sliver of sun disc as well.
However, being an engineer has ruined me for life, symmetry id everything and a large open gap on the LHS would proper do my head in.
Do as you see fit, i really like the colours though.
Pterodactyl fighting a T-Rex over the remains of Donald trump while Melania takes photos.
I think it needs Ted from the fast show and his master declaring his undying love (perhaps the to left corner)
Superman, fist forward, flying mightily in from the top left corner.
You lot need Jim'll Paint It.
Anyway, wolf howling at moon, obvs duh!
With the plane.

Nice.
Flocks of flying geese, more trees etc - Totally boring as f***. been done a million times.
An artist mate did a nice one of a well known Glasgow pub -The star Bar Eglington toll. But his he placed a police van blocking the road and police tape to convey that of an interesting theme or side note.
Normal photos or painted pics of it show just the bar and the twin road intersection. again reproduced a thousand times, his was completely different.
Brontosaurus taking a piss.
A flock of birds coming in low to land from left to right.
P.s. if you could figure out how to paint a bike like that I'd snatch your hand off. That would be effing ace.
A swarm of wasps attacking from the left

Ref Jim’ll up there ‘Bayeux Kicking Out Time’ going down a storm!
That's a talent you've got there, mate.
I can only repeat what others have said. The plane doesn't work, but it needs something. I think maybe just a small detail? Can you do the plane but much, much smaller so it adds interest to the space without dominating it?
War of the worlds tripod thing
No. Pterodactyl etc.
Painting by committee is fun.
I'd say nothing is needed space is good and you will detract from the trees. Really though I think you need to go with your gut it's art, just see where it takes you.

How about an electricity pylon? Or a 5g mast? Or a wind farm? Or a housing estate building site?
Might as well go for a bit of realism 8-D
P.s. if you could figure out how to paint a bike like that I’d snatch your hand off. That would be effing ace.
I can paint a bike like that but not sure how durable the acrylic paint would be. Maybe if you sprayed a few coats of diamond hard lacquer over it.
Not a bike but an example of the paint technique on a irregular objects.
