An offer on Sony XM4s too good to turn down resulted in owning my first ever pair of wireless headphones. Amazing for music of course but I also wanted these for wathcing late night telly at a volume that I can hear and enjoy rather than keeping others awake!

The thing is, there seems to be a lag so audio is behind the TV, people speak and then maybe half a second later I hear it. Really quite (1st world) irritating!

It happened on my old soundbar and there was a +/- button to control this on the remote. There seems to be something on the sound settings of the TV (I have to use internal tv speaker as my soundbar is a Naim Muso and won't bluetooth to the headphones) regarding lip sync but that option is already ticked. The info on the TV suggests just re-starting the TV if it continues, which is also annoying.

Anybody know if there is anything that I can do to stop or reduce this lag?

It happens on the PS4 as well although I was told these wouldn't work at all with game playing but perhaps that was related to speaking to others whilst playing maybe?

Can’t help but my xm3s don’t have lag when watching vids on the ipad. So is this a tv issue? Do yours work ok when but to tablet or phone?
I’ve found cheap bt earphones bad for lag but not the Sony’s or AirPods.

I've a Set of mpow wireless headphones that lag with nowtv, and a little with Netflix on the android phone.
It's a known issue for some Bluetooth devices and app combo, but not always consistent model to model.

Doesn't help, but you're not alone.

Wireless headphones have more latency than wired ones, it's unavoidable.

The most widely used low-latency Bluetooth codec is AptX, but your headphones don't support it. They do support Sony's own codec called LDAC but I don't know how TV compatibility works here. Another option could be to get a separate Bluetooth receiver connected to the headphones with a wire for watching TV.

I don't think there's much else you can do except adjust the audio sync on your TV or use a long cable.

This may be of no use to the OP but might help others - having just got our first TV with Bluetooth I too wanted a pair of wireless headphones for late night viewing. Coincidentally I also saw an offer for some Sony headphones that looked too good to be true, and which I was sure would work with the Sony TV. Fortunately I tried my running headphones first and got unacceptable lag like you describe and realised after some Googling that I probably needed Aptx low latency which the Sony headphones didn’t have (probably one of the reasons for the price) but the TV did. I’m therefore typing this watching a fairly poor Queen documentary while wearing a pair of Sennheisers with Aptx LL and it’s fine. I also tried to connect our Muso to the TV through Bluetooth but one end or the other wasn’t having it so have stuck with old-school fibre optics; sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

xm4s don't support AptX? xm3s do, that's weird. And it's correct, just looked it up.

I don't get lag on my xm3s on the telly - I did on the Mac until I made it use the right codec.

Wireless headphones have more latency than wired ones, it’s unavoidable.

Yes but when properly set up it's undetectable. It's certainly not half a second.

Molgrips, are there circumstances where they might not be able to be set up correctly i.e they just lag and that's it? Can't see what options i have left on the tv?
Currently watching the laptop with no issues at all.
