Hi all,

I fancy getting some wireless earbuds but do not want to shell out what Apple and co. are charging at the top end.

Does anyone have recommendations for decent budget options (or horror stories about useless cheap tat)?

Thanks 🙂

My Enacfire Future buds are really good. Did a listen test against the apple earbuds everyone's using at work and even the fanboys had to admit the sound better. £40 on Amazon.

If not for cycling these are pretty good

I can't *really* recommend for cycling though (despite still using the, and despite 3 of my mates using them) because they keep momentarily dropping connection when you turn your head or have a strong headwind. I've kind of started putting up with it but I don't think it will be long before I get so fed up that I find a better (more expensive) pair

But for non fast biking, they're great. And only 20 quid!

Poly/Plantronics Backbeat Fit 3100.  Mine are 6 months old and haven’t skipped a beat in all that time - used for sweaty indoor training, and outdoor off-road rides.

their predecessors (Bluetooth behind the neck) are still going strong after over 5 years of use.

Disclaimer - I work for them.

I’ve got some £20 ones from amazon, they’re great for running and general listening.

I’ve got some shure Bluetooth ones which sound great but I tend to use the cheap wireless ones because the charging case means they’re always ready to go.

Depends a bit on what you want them for really, general music listening, music whilst exercising, music listening in public where you want noise-cancelling etc? Oh and what is your actual budget?

I got some RHA MA390 which was first venture into wireless headphones and so far I’ve been very impressed.

If for during sport then some bone conducting ones like aftershox so you maintain situational awareness. Don't be a zombie.

Edit, not buds though.

Not quite buds but I can recommend the Tarah Pro in ear headphones from jaybird.
They are waterproof and have a (real world) 14-15 hour battery life.

I’ve been through a few pairs of the truly wireless ones. My keepers are Jabra Elite 65ts which are good for music and calls. Not cheap @ £130 but worth it IMHO.

Thanks for the responses. Budget is around £40 and they will be used for listening to audiobooks, podcasts and some music.

Will mainly be used whilst walking or whilst in the office to listen to webinars, video tutorials etc.

Unlikely that I will use them whilst cycling as most of my time is spent on road and it is dangerous enough already without the limiting my hearing - just my opinion and choice - not looking for any arguments about this 🙂

The Enacfire Future buds look good. I would love some more expensive such as the Plantronics ones mentioned but cannot really justify the spend at the moment.

I had a set of Tautronics which I was very pleased with however after 3 months they stopped charging so were replaced under warranty. The replacements lasted for just over a year before the sound quality fell through the floor and then they stopped charging too. TBF I would consider getting another pair as for a score its not a crushing loss if they die after a year and while they worked they were fine.

A follow up, in that case then op (as you're not using on bike) I can actually recommend the TaoTronics - for your use case they'd be EXCELLENT. They also have fairly decent ambient sound isolation thanks to being in-ear.

^ post above, it sounds like their customer service is great. If they last a year, at 20 quid, I'd call that good going. And you can bet that they'll replace them anyway to stop you leaving a <5* review - being the top of Amazon is literally their business model

Another recommendation for the enacfire future, I only got them last week and they are fantastic so far, I work in a fairly loud factory and they are worn for about 10 hours a day, get around 4 hours play time before I have to out them in the case to charge for half hour.

I have the enacfire e18’s and they’re pretty decent for the money, musically they fall way short of my rha t20i wired earbuds but for convenience they are good enough.

amazon have the updated version cheap at the moment

Thanks all - I have bought the Enacfire Future Plus buds in somafunk's link above. Received them today and am impressed with them so far for the price (£33.99).

slight hijack but I prefer earbuds that sit/hang in the ear, rather than ones that plug right into your ear canal. I've only seen the airpods that are like this. All the others are plug-in.

Are there any other airpod-like models out there?

There's a lot of look-a-like airpods on Amazon that have the same sit-in design, no clue about how good they are though.

I bought some of TaoTronics IPX7 as linked above for a bargain price of £15.99. Look good, nice features such as the magnets holding them together when around your neck but the sound quality was very poor. Music just sounded a bit tinny / empty through them so I've sent them back.

Now waiting on some Skullcandy Smokin Buds 2 to arrive as they seem to get better reviews.
