There's help in the rotation and I really don't think it was Toby's aim, however it's his responsibility once the players in the air to get him down safely. He didn't, he'll be banned for 3/4 days...

Did you see Varndell get binned for a textbook tackle against Bath earlier? That bloke can't win, he finally starts to tackle correctly, lifts the player, drives him back and towards touch, makes are he hits the ground correctly and he's sent off the pitch. I recall an orange coloured player doing that to a young boy in white once and getting applauded for it!

Venter had a week added for eating biscuits, it was in the official transcript.

The RFU released an 11-page statement on Thursday, in which it observed Venter's "arrogant behaviour" during the hearing, citing his eating of biscuits and sweets as examples.

It reported: "The panel witnessed a certain disdain from Venter when he appeared at the hearing (for example by coming back to hear his sanction eating a biscuit and throwing sweet papers across the table)."

Thomas added: "You don't go into the Old Bailey eating a biscuit. You show a degree of respect to the process in the court."

Henson turned up and refused to plead guilty for snotting that Leicester prop and got the book thrown at him!!!

The Leicester prop who had the intention of maiming him, I really think that injustice messed the orange one's head up.

AA as I said yesterday Glaws were shocking against a really underwhelming not nots

Hmm, to me the two looked pretty close in character, neither dangerous. Varndell seemed to lift the Bath players legs and knowing that every move like that results in a yellow then it was stupid.

The Flood one is more interesting as it looks to me as if the tackled player (Goode?) twisted deliberately - was he aiming to get a yellow card against Flood I wonder?

The whole 'spear' tackle thing must be dying a death surely. Can't the refs go back to using some sense and penalising for dangerous play wherever it comes from instead of having to check the rules and carding players when they lift the legs more than 16.34degrees from the horizontal?

Do we think that Wade will be named in the England squad? Ashton seems to be a shoe in with Lancaster, Strettle has been in good form of late. It'd be nice to have some wingers that are good for a change 🙂

I thought that a spear tackle was dependant on how the player landed? That'd mean that Varndell was OK as he controlled the Bath player even though there was initial over rotation, and that Flood was going to be in the shite due to the landing even though I agree with you that Goode twisted, whilst having another Tigers player push on his girly hair (plus he's so bloomin tubby that it'd be impossible for anyone to stop the weeble from spinning over!)

As for Wade, no, not a chance. I'm not sure why, but wingers are simply never picked for England on there ability to score tries. Whilst I agree that there should be a balance on defensive work, surely most of these boys in the premiership know how to defend (as that's all they do according to the Celtic club followers!)

Chris, the joke that is the citing procedure has just got worse. It wasnt bad but he lifted him so its his responsibility to get him down safely.

Because some coaches still believe a winger should also be a stand in for a fullback/centre/10/flanker/prop and will need to stand up to Jonah Lomu.

England pick the rather excellent Mr Twelvetrees. Oh, and a violent psycho nutjob who should never have been allowed back on a professional field.

Clark cannot be the best second row or back row in England? I don't think he should be allowed to make money from rugby.

Glad to see that Lancaster has been coaching him since age 14. Obviously had a huge influence on his skills in contact.

Strong England team that. Agree with the Clark sentiments. He's a rugby animal and would be a formidable weapon if he wasn't such a malicious psycho.

For once I agree with you AA - not sure that Clark should ever be allowed on a rugby pitch, let alone play for England.

I disagree about Flood though as think other players influenced the contact.

bollocks. Flood picked him and its his responsibility to get him down and not drive him head first into the ground. The citing procedure and the outcomes of it are a disgrace to the game.

Flood did not have him in the air before other people had his hands on him, his own player pulling him and a worcester player providing a pivot point. I also feel that Goode tried to turn making it worse.

Saying all of that it was a dangerous tackle, not sure there was intent or that he was wholly responsible which is where the citing committee have their hands tied possibly.

For me one of the most worrying aspects of modern rugby is the lack of wrapping in tackles these days, too much shoulder charging.

I would like to see all dangerous play erradicated though so if he was punished I wouldn't have had a problem.

It was a dangerous tackle, as I said onthe last page, it wasnt that bad. But given what the refs have been told it should have beeen a red. Had Flood got a red then not recieved any further punishment that would have been fine. He should have been given a week or two due to the mitigating circumstance imo.. . Has anyone seen the guy running through Vissers legs? I'll post that up tonight, whilst it is quite funny it doeshighlight something thar really boils my piss.

AA - a week or two would have probably been ok, just to highlight dangerous play and to show they have a stance on it.

Help me please, I've just agreed with AA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Penalty Edinburgh for non release in tackle. Probably gave penalty to white for tackling a player without the ball.

Shit performance from Glasgow. The really annoying thing is that we've done the exact same thing in every match. Played well for 20 to 30 minutes and then thrown it all away. This Heineken cup has been an embarrassment.

Still, could be worse, I could support Edinburgh. It's shite being Scottish.

Probably the right result in the end, however how much did that pair hate Leicester? unreal standard of commentary.

I've also just switched over to ESPN classic which is showing the BaBa's 1973 game against NZ. There's been a scrum that the srum half has had two attempts to get the ball into and you know what? The scrum stayed still and waited. None of this hitting and falling over. I wish we could go back to those rules!

Then they were probably fairly even though. I think it's that Barnes has a bit of a reputation for tiggers hating, so I always assume that he's one sided.
Mind you, if I heard that bloody scrum half's name one more time, I would've thrown my toddler at the screen! I think Barnes went down to the locker room to offer him some executive relief after!

Scotland training squad for 6N

Unsuprisngly only 7 Edinburgh players quite right since they have been so poor, although would have liked to see Tonks in as i think he has done pretty well. No place for John Barclay either.

Backs: Peter Murchie, Stuart Hogg, Sean Maitland, Tommy Seymour, Sean Lamont (all Glasgow Warriors), Tim Visser (Edinburgh Rugby), Max Evans (Castres), Matt Scott (Edinburgh Rugby), Alex Dunbar, Peter Horne, Duncan Weir, Ruaridh Jackson (all Glasgow Warriors), Tom Heathcote (Bath Rugby), Henry Pyrgos, Sean Kennedy (both Glasgow Warriors) and Greig Laidlaw (Edinburgh Rugby).

Forwards: Alasdair Dickinson (Sale Sharks), Ryan Grant, Dougie Hall, Pat MacArthur (all Glasgow Warriors), Ross Ford (Edinburgh Rugby), Euan Murray (Worcester Warriors), Geoff Cross (Edinburgh Rugby), Moray Low, Alastair Kellock (both Glasgow Warriors), Richie Gray (Sale Sharks), Jim Hamilton (Gloucester), Grant Gilchrist (Edinburgh Rugby), Kelly Brown (Saracens), Robert Harley, Ryan Wilson (both Glasgow Warriors), Johnnie Beattie (Montpellier), David Denton (Edinburgh Rugby), Richie Vernon (Sale Sharks), Chris Fusaro (Glasgow Warriors).

EDIT: Question for the Sale fans or anone else that may know has Fraser MacKenzie been playing and playing well?

Dammit Beattie's been called up, he's been great at Montpellier so far this season and has helped make their 3rd row the best in the top14. Shame to see him waste the next 8 weeks playing for a team that doesn't win games 😉

IIRC,although one of the Sale supporters may be along to correct me, McKenzie is not long back from long term injury, he was bloody good before that, indeed; on form is probably the best Scottish Lock at Sale.
