AB went to sleep second half - too many changes. What was the score at half time??..........
England should have won that, can't complain about robshaws decision at the end - right at limit of farrells range. Lost to a bloody lucky try.

Interesting to hear SCW this morning on 5L, especially given paper stories saying that he had been rejected for the role recently. He stood behind SL and Robshaw and highlighted that this was a rookie side and a rookie coach that needed time and support. Most interestingly IMO he suggested that analysis of the SA match should be very limited ahead of next week. Time to dump the stats, free their minds and focus on what they wanted to achieve against the thugs, sorry, the All Blacks. A sensible approach as the need to fill pages and radio/TV time creates an over analysis of noise that adds little or no value. If Flood had worn his kicking boots and if the fluky try had not happened, the conclusions could/would have been fundamentally despite the truth that the facts in the field would have been only slightly different.*

I feel for Robshaw, because he had an honest and hard working match. Effective rather than flash, but this is ignored in favour of extended consideration of the final penalty decision. As Woodward concluded, SA have had few tries scored against them and the chances of England doing so were marginal at best. So not a clear cut decision.

Si solum.........

Edit: isn't that what happened with Wales being placed on so high a pedestal last year. A first match that was not a forgone conclusion plus the following momentum led to some false claims on the health of the side. By such smal margins, different conclusion are now being spouted by those in-the-know (sic).

Still, Redpath will be free soon if Sale's implosion continues...

"I am just resigned to the fact that he will probably get cited. That's what happens every time we come up here...I think they think we're thugs or something, but we don't play different to anyone else," All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen said post-match.

not sure it is a failure as they have pushed two sides above them hard, and with a bit more experience and competition against these teams will start to beat them again.

Oooooh miaow wrecker 😉

Apart from Ireland yesterday we have all done pretty poorly. Wales have been pitiful.

The 15 man line out was a stroke of genius, can you imagine how twp we would of looked if we hadn't secured the ball 😆

I don't like SCW either but he turned England into the best side in the world, eventually.

Several things worry me about SL.

When critics described his appointment as "fortunate" he countered by saying he'd done all the coaching badges. Reminded me of Arnold Rimmer quoting his Space Corps rank as Technician - 3rd Class.

He has Andy Farrell as his backs coach. He played RL - as a forward! (albeit a great one). It clearly shows.....

He picks Owen Farrell as a fly half who can't pass, run or read a game.

He picks an inside centre who creates nothing and an outside centre who scores plenty of tries but butchers many more as he can't/won't pass the ball to set the outside backs free.

He picks Robshaw for his "leadership" qualities - 😆

He derides Steffon Armitage as being out of condition and only looking good because he's playing behind a dominant pack. FFS - he's part of a dominant pack because he's good. Anyway, since when did playing in/behind a good pack count AGAINST you?

I don't dislike him, I just think he's out of his depth. England may do well in the 6N but that's only because the rest of the sides are so p*ss poor - except the French but you might catch them on a bad day.

Namas - fair points, but they are better than when he took over so he has done a few things right and for that he deserves a longer chance.

I think the only thing SCW did was understand how professionalism would change the game. He got lucky with an english side that played a very simple game very well and a kicker who couldn't miss. His handling of the Lions relegates him to something I occasionally step in on the pavement.

That's not saying much though - they were in total disarray when he took over. He's a good manager. He's managed England back into shape but they're still sh*t.

Agree on the Lions - he tried to use a 5yr plan over 3 months. I think England were a bit better than that.

Hey - I think SCW is a **** but I still think he could make England a much better side if he was back in charge.

Good appoint him then.
The autumn internationals are about money making hence the games outside the window. Ireland who have a thriving domrstic set up did well as the played two big games with an effectively b international in between. Wales have played four games against tough opposition to generate money. The players were flogged in June and Nov and those that can walk back to their clubs will be ****ed.

Adam Jones
Paul James
Ryan Jarvis
AlunWyn Jones
Ian Evans
Bradley Davis
Dan Lydiate
McCusker
Roberts
J Davis
North

all injured or have been injured or were already injured, for what? With Hook, Phillips back to france and Pual James back to Bath who is available and still standing to play Aus.

Gatland tried the 15 man line out on more than one occasion when he managed Ireland, he was widely ridiculed for it then, now he looks like he was ahead of his time.

I thought Ireland were very good against an admittedly very tired Argentinian team. Add POC, Ferris, Kearney and BOD back into that squad and you would have a pretty decent team.

Nice chap that Andrew Hore .

From the New Zealand Herald 28 july 2005 :

In a New Zealand first, three Otago farmers, including All Black Andrew Hore, were yesterday convicted and fined for killing a protected fur seal on the Otago coast, a crime described by Judge Peter Rollo as a "grossly irresponsible, spontaneous act of hooliganism".

During the group's return to land about 4pm, the boat went within 15-30m of the shore and the three defendants started shooting at rabbits on the cliff, said Mr Kessick.

They then saw seals on the beach and cliff and started shooting at them, sending the mammals fleeing for the water.

A member of a 45-strong tourist group viewing wildlife on a nearby beach caught the incident on video. At least 15 shots could be heard on the video.

The fishing party was met by police on returning to Carey's Bay and the three men were spoken to.

They all admitted firing the shots. DoC staff found one dead fur seal the next day.

A few more Glaws players called up to the England squad too....

Autumn internationals are a money spinner, but also vital WC seedings are on offer, which is one big failure for England with a home WC coming up. It was also time to deliver according to SL, and after a 6 nations, summer tour and autumn internations i'm not sure England are more forward in terms of delivering an all round game with a number of intelligent decision makers - a number of factors as intensity levels put forward as progress, should be basic requirements onf any top team. Spouting `togetherness' then openly questioning or ignoring your Captain is a worry too. Being given time is fair enough but i don't think you can base this on the length of time given to Woodward to get it right due partly to the degree of professionalism and resources in the late 90's.

In terms of knackered NH players, the southern hemisphere have just come to the end of their season, and arguably has less resources and more injuries. England may have fronted up, but in terms of development the likes of SA are also rebuilding post world cup and are only going to get better.

TJ speaks from beyond the .. . . . . . . . . .

Oh dear

A defeat that looked like too many other defeats under Robinson. He simply had to go.

A good coach adds value and gets the team to be more than the sum of the parts. For whatever reason this does not happen under Robinson despite it being a traditional strength of Scotlands players. They are playing well below their abilities. They lackconfidence and look lost and. Under Robinson we have slumped down the rankings and the last 20 odd games make poor reading. the only wins the narrow ones over Aus and SA, Fiji and Samaoa on tour, Georgia, Romania in the WC, Ireland and italy in pre WC friendlies http://www.espnscrum.com/scotland/rugby/team/2.html?template=results. 7 games in 22.

This is the best group of players I have seen in Scotland since maybe 1990. When they play so poorly for the national side then the coach must bear the blame. They look ill prepared mentally and unsure of gameplan and tactics. I believe Robinson has a way he wants to play and tries to select team to suit this - rather than playing the best players and devising a gameplan to suit the players we have. We don't have the luxury of being able to choose horses for courses to any great extent - we simply do not have the depth in the player pool to do so. He has been consistently conservative in his selections - Playing and out of form Parks instead of an inform Laidlaw against England in the last 6N was a disaster and set the tone for the series whitewash. He also plays people out of position too much and clearly the players do not belieive in the tactics he tries to get them to play.

I think Robinson is an honest and passionate man but simply has been promoted beyond his abilities. He should have been left with Edinburgh.

So - the future.

IMO there is no one in the scotland set up who is the right person. My choice would be Todd Blackadder. He played and coached in Scotland, he is ambitious and on his way up and has an eye on the NZ job in the future. Getting scotland playing well again and to their potential woud be a good thing to have on his CV. There are other young coaches in the same position who would fir the bill as well Lineen is a possibility for temp coach for the 6n ( I understand there was a friction at Glasgow tho so maybe not) Of the estabilished Coaches only Mallet would I aceppt.

Scotland have the players to be comfortably in the top 8 in the world, to be challenging if not winnig a 6 N and to be WC semifinalists. The SRU is on a decent financal footing now and intrerst in teh Pro game is rising ( tho still very fragile). The scotland coaches job is a good opportunity for someone and I hope the SRU have the confidence and nous to get the right person.

As I posted further up. However, given the ****ing farce into which my beloved Sale are descending this season, I wouldn't count on anything. Mitchell would be a good option for Scotland too, as he hasn't actually signed anything for Sale just yet.

Idlejon LiamWilliams bought some ball playing skills to the backs he popped up drew men and passed. His nasty stuff had no real effect on the all blacks. I'd still be tempted to swap him and 1/2p i think it would make us better in attack.

No, he's not a good 12 and doesnt like playing there. Didn't work at Newcastle (Wilkinson) hasn't worked for England (Wilkinson and Farrel and Hodgeson) I'm not tottaly sure why, but 10's seem to make good 15's (if they have the pace) but generally poor 12's

Interesting that there isn't much love for Farrel-yes he's not great when running at defenders, but let's not forget that he is still very young-he's a very accurate goal kicker which any international team needs. Obviously if you pick him, then you are going to be kicking for territory a lot-hopefully he will improve with ball in hand, and his kicking from hand could be more accurate too. George Ford seems to be doing well for Leicester again, perhaps he'll be in the squad in the future-i think he'll need to bulk up a bit, isn't he only 18/19 though?

Not looking good for POC-

Locked out O'Connell writes off his Lions tour

Paul O’Connell, who captained the Lions in South Africa in 2009, has virtually ruled himself out of consideration for next year’s tour to Australia fully seven months in advance.

Sidelined during the Six Nations by a knee injury, which resurfaced to rule him out of the summer tour, O’Connell has since been plagued by back problems which have placed a cloud over the career of Ireland’s outstanding forward of this and probably many other generations.

“I’d love to go but at this stage it’s not looking great for me,” a resigned O’Connell said on KFM radio yesterday after just two games in the last seven months. “I’ve spent a lot of time injured now and it’s going to be a bit of a battle to get fitness so while it would have been a goal for me, I suppose right now I’m just looking to get back fit and get back playing as soon as I can. Whatever happens from there happens.”

And you'd want that playing against the AB's, masters of the counter attack?

I'd rather put Tuilagi at 10 and have him create rucks from 10 all afternoon.

I thought Farrel was the second coming of St Johnny. He seems to have fallen as out of favour as Priestland just without the massive dip in form. Sexton seems nailed on for Lions if nothing changes.

England should do better than Wales v NZ. England are playing better and have a stronger pack. I'll be suprised if they get humped.

The skills levels are not comparable, we'll lose as the AB's support lines are better than our isolated runs into space. Interested in the Barrit/Smith, Nonu/Tuilgai confrontations though.

I'm really hoping Mike Brown doesn't get on the wing again - if we're to continue with this style we need an out and out winger - and a good one for this match.

Alex Goode needs to get into the attacking line as per his first appearance - he was practically invisible last week - with Farrell able to play 12, there's an extra man option at both ends of the backs there.

Gotta create holes, kick over/through (with a good chase).

Bigger but less mobile, and that's not necessarily good against NZ who are big AND mobile. But England seem to have less of an issue with NZ than Wales, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if England win.

Scotland have more problems than who is going to mis-manage them to defeat.
No real front row and the best is part time (doesn't do Sundays) and teh experienced has stepped down.
Second row and 6,7,8 are decent and abundant but injured.
Several 9's maybe even classy.
No 10, the only real 10 is too inexperienced and maybe not that good.
Reasonable inside centre but dear god we play de luca at 13. He truly has hands of sperm and is a penalty magnet.
Reasonable full back and forward running wings but 11 and 14 both ropey in defence especially under chipped ball or one on one runners oh and on the crash ball they can't pass after making ground.

So to sum up we have no management or good players in link positions

Joy!!!

C'mon Scotland!!!!!

Bigger but less mobile, and that's not necessarily good against NZ who are big AND mobile. But

True, but England should be bale to control their own ball and slow play down, Wales cannot that is why England rarely get humped and Wales often do. However Barrit and Tuilagi v Nonu and Smith is like comparing apples and pears.

Well, again England have one winger in the squad, let alone the starting team! I'm actually confused as to why, it really doesn't seem to make sense. Surely there are decent wingers out there?

Would i be right in saying the one winger is Ashton who isnt that great anyway. Still wales had two wingers and a full back in their squad and only one of them was playing in the right place.

Varndell and Wade should both be in the squad. Scoring tries for fun. Yes they are crap in defence but when did that become the deal breaker with wingers.....no point not conceding if you can't score. Barritt has no place in the team either. I'd like to see Lawes in the starting line up too.

aa yep, hasn't scored in 11 internationals (not too sure how he's doing at saffacens but given barrett and farrell inside him, I doubt it's well!) and he's the number one.
So many good wingers out there, and we stick with him?

We're going to be stuffed. Can't contain the all blacks and there's no way we'll out score them!

For the first time in a long time England are playing at Twickenham in a game I don't think they have any chance of winning.

Varndell and Wade should both be in the squad.....they are crap in defence but when did that become the deal breaker with wingers..

Errr......since rugby became professional and teams started analyzing and exploiting any weaknesses. 😉
