Well the Mrs is insisting we go for some winter sun in January or February.
Due to business commitments we can't go away the rest of the year.
Personally I'm not that bothered but I have no choice.
Don't want to spend a fortune and would prefer short haul to long haul.
Any suggestions?
We go to Tenerife every Feb. Not too far to travel to and pretty Much guaranteed good weather.
Think we paid £1800 each. 5* all inclusive in a nice area.
Did Tenerife in January for my 40th a few years ago. Not somewhere I'd ever choose to go in summer but it was lovely in January. Low 20s temps. Not busy but enough people and stuff open that it didn't feel like a ghost town.
Work took me to Cascais in February. It is just outside Lisbon, a short train ride away. It was a real surprise - really nice, superb weather, great food, amazing spaces and places (I was working in the local national park). We stayed at a good hotel that was super good value. Mrs_OAB came out for a few days as well.
We did go into Lisbon the day our flight left - but we were left feeling like mass tourism and queues were not our thing. Next time I would spend more time in the countryside, cycling the estuary paths and sitting soaking up the winter sun with a lovely pastry or beer.
Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Hotel Madrid (V central and cheap). You wouldn't spend the day on the beach in January but you can walk to Canteras beach (restaurants, surf break) plus you've got all the restaurants and bars in the city and Corte Ingles etc if that's your thing. Next week in the 30s.
Went to El Cotillo in Fuerteventura last December. Nice and warm in the day and pleasant enough to even go to the beach as well. Nice little village and lots of places to eat. Cheap flight with Ryanair though obviously have to be meticulous with baggage allowance so they don’t shaft you.
Gran Canaria as above. Las Palmas is a lovely city, loads to do and see. We did another few days down the south coast. More resorts, nice though, and lovely weather.
Fuerteventura is the warmest of the Canary Islands as it’s closest to the Sahara. We went there in February and it was around 26 degrees towards the end of the week so warm enough, for me, to use the swimming pools!
Anywhere in the Canaries and you can't go wrong. We've done them all, usually in December, and we personally love Fuerteventura the most. Its a lovely temperature (mid to high 20's) with the added bonus of great cycling. Take your kit and hire a bike for a day or two. Fat bikes are bloody great fun on volcanic landscape and beaches
Not too shabby for December, when its cold, dark and miserable in the UK...
